One of the very serious female diseases and widely spread is endometriosis.

But endometriosis is also considered to be a little mysterious, because the real reasons of its occurrence are not investigated and proven. Endometriosis is described by appearing the cells of mucous membrane lining the uterus, called endometrium, in the places where they are usually not located: ovaries, fallopian tubes, urinary bladder, uterus wall, peritoneum, rectum and sometimes in other organs.

These cells occur in these organs and begin to function as naturally on the endometrium. They cause abnormal menstrual bleeding, and often bleeding between menstrual periods. The disease is accompanied with pain of different degrees. Every month, about three to ten days before menstruation, women may feel pain in abdomen, but also in back, legs, and buttocks and in the internal organs. Of course, the character of pain may vary. For some women the pain is so severe that they are not able to work and are forced to take medications for relieving. Abdominal swelling, headaches, sickness, vomiting may be the symptoms of the endometriosis as well.

Very often women with endometriosis cannot become pregnant. The disease does not cause the total infertility but the chances of pregnancy come down.

There are several forms of the disease. There can be genital and extragenital forms. Genital form affects the organs of female reproductive system: in ovaries, vagina, isthmus of uterus, fallopian tubes, peritoneum of small pelvis. Extragenital forms may occur in other organs: bowels, urinary system, postoperative scars, etc. The treatment of disease is prescribed by the specialists according to the form and character of symptoms for every separate patient.

Among the methods of the treatment of disease, there can be distinguished drug and surgical therapy. The main goals of the treatment are to relieve women from pain, reduce the loss of blood and to stimulate the pregnancy.

First of all, it is usage of hormone therapy. The hormone medications should be close to the composition of the contraceptive agents. These agents suppress ovulation process or totally suppress the function of the ovaries. They imitate the female climacterium and may cause the corresponding symptoms: congestion, dryness of mucous membrane and so on. The course of treatment is usually long: from a few months to half of a year. After drug withdrawal, the normal cycle of the menstruation is recovered.

The second method is surgical endometriosis treatment of disease. It should be used if the endometriosis causes the ovarian cyst. Currently the most standard method of treatment of disease is laparoscopy. Though the puncture in the abdominal cavity a special device is put to the sick organ and the operation is performed with the help of the micromanipulator. It is possible to remove the endometrial cells, cyst, etc.

There can be the combination of both treatments of disease methods that is decided by your physician. A special ultrasonic examination and a number of tests are used for diagnosing the disease. Self-diagnosis and especially self-treatment is not recommended because it may lead to serious fatal consequences.
