Donovan Philips Leitch is a Scottish singer. Donovan was born on the tenth of May 1946 in the family of a worker in Glasgow. In 1956, they moved to London. He was ill with poliomyelitis and after it there were some consequences that he could not go in for sports and play with his friends. He made up his own world in his imagination. It happened when he was sixteen - he went traveling about England.
He went to the art school but some time later he stopped going there. He was fond of music. But Donovan did not think that music was a main thing in his life. So, he traveled about England and played in cafes. When the group wanted to make a rest it sent Donovan to the scene to sing. The group manager was impressed with his singing and after it he sent his first records to the studio in London.
These records were approved in this studio and Donovan was sent to a popular show where he was compared with Dylan. After it Donovan attracted attention of the public. His first single "Catch the Wind" was successful and in April in 1965 it took the sixth place.
Some time later Donovan met one of the producers in the English pop-music Mickey Most and with him he created the most impressive records in his carrier. After their meeting the singer said: "I won't sing about what I hate, I will sing about only what I like." He loved children, nature, the sun, the earth and stars.
Here is Donovan albums review. He recorded many disks- CATCH THE WIND (1965), FAIRY TALE (1965), SUNSHINE SUPERMAN (1966), MELLOW YELLOW (1967), WEAR YOUR LOVE LIKE HEAVEN (1967), FOR LITTLE ONES (1967), THE HURDY GURDY MAN (1968), BARABAJAGAL (1969), OPEN ROAD (1970), H.M.S. In 1966, Donovan got three "golden" disks for his albums "Sunshine Superman" and "Mellow Yellow". His songs are romantic. He said that bad times would come and a man would appear and he would help people to forget about old age and feel happy. And as we see he turned out to be this man.
In 1967, his single with the song "There Is a Mountain" was successful. His next singles "Jennifer Juniper", 'Hurdy Gurdy Man" - 'Goo Goo Barabajaga" regularly took the first places in the top-ten chart lists. Every song had its own face but there were not universal approaches of the author. He told that he was a seller of hopes.
Some time later he bought an island with a castle near Scotland.
In 1968 his three albums turned out in the top-ten chart lists. But at that moment something happened and people didn't see him. He lived at home and turned his attention to experimental film making, and by producing films that interested him. His recording activity temporarily came to a halt. In 1971, he returned to his recording activity with his song "Celia of the Seals". In two years he recorded a new disk with songs "Swing", "Boogie and Dixieland".
After 1975 nothing was been heard about Donovan as he and his family moved to Los Angeles.
In the beginning of the 1980's he recorded three albums and appeared in different festivals. In 1993, he created his new album "Troubadour", consisting of forty-four songs.
Even now in the new millennium he doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Donovan is a bright musician and many people over the world love his songs very much.
