Today, there are several explanations of addiction which are usually called models. For example, different sorts of social models are used very often to explain alcohol or drug addictions. But such models, like the cultural model, or the moral model do not provide real help to people suffering from addiction. Of course there are also other explanations that offer different methods of treatment.

Any kind of addiction is always a great problem and there are many different methods and techniques of treatment that modern medicine can offer. There are so-called medical models of addiction that are used in these treatment techniques. Of course there are also other models that show different effectiveness in treatments like disease model or genetic model.
