Peculiarities of laser resurfacing lasers

Added: 01/13/2006

Laser resurfacing lasers are used in skin laser resurfacing procedure to remove the areas of wrinkled or damaged skin. Well, the procedure is aimed at minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially around lips and eyes. At the same time using carbon dioxide gas laser can be pretty efficient in treating areas of uneven pigmentation and facial scars. Thus, laser resurfacing can be performed either on the whole face or in separate specific regions.

Describing laser resurfacing lasers it?s necessary to pay much attention to laser resurfacing procedure itself. Thus, laser resurfacing procedure is considered to be a relatively new treatment of facial lines, wrinkles and other skin irregularities (including acne scars and blemishes).

The laser resurfacing is a process of vaporizing the damaged skin and upper skin layers by application of special controlled laser beam. The procedure usually results in skin restructuring and healing, and at the same time reducing wrinkles appearance.

How are laser resurfacing lasers used? As a matter of fact laser resurfacing lasers provide brief but intensive emission of light which is able to remove skin layer by layer at precisely controlled penetration levels.

The surgery performed with laser resurfacing lasers usually follows several steps. The mentioned steps are the following. First, the medical expert or an assistant cleanses the patient?s face and removes all the fat from the skin surface. Then antibiotic should be applied to kill all the bacteria. Later a microphone-shape instrument passes a beam of light over the skin and vaporizes the outer skin layers of damaged or wrinkled skin.

Admittedly, that laser resurfacing lasers can be programmed for various penetration levels. In addition, it?s rather convenient for their effective usage. So, the doctor will be able to penetrate more deeply in some particular skin areas to remove stubborn spots, deep scars, lines and wrinkles. Be aware that during the procedure the patient may smell smoke and hear the laser zipping. Finally, the doctor should apply a special protective ointment or bandage to the treated skin area.

Several types of laser resurfacing lasers can be used to perform the procedure of skin resurfacing. For example, one of the well-known lasers for skin resurfacing is carbon dioxide gas laser. It?s worthy admitting that this is one of the most common and inexpensive helium-neon lasers.

Er yag laser is also one of the laser resurfacing lasers. The treatment with this laser is usually shorter than the one performed with carbon dioxide gas lasers. It has fewer side-effects and at the same time almost the same efficient as carbon dioxide gas laser. Er yag laser alternates between the pulses which destroy skin tissues. This process is known to resurface skin as effectively as carbon dioxide gas but with less risks and possible complications.

Nowadays it has become rather popular to mix both carbon dioxide gas laser and er yag laser to achieve the most desirable effect with minimum risks. In such treatment, the first resurfacing laser to be used is er yag laser which removes epidermis. Then - carbon dioxide gas laser is used to achieve the necessary contraction of underlying collagen. Thus, often doctors use a combination of laser resurfacing lasers.
