Candida infection is a kind of infection that is caused by different species of Candida yeast. It can also be called candidiasis infection. The most common of Candida species is Candida albicans. As a rule, Candida bacteria attack the vagina or digestive tract. Candida usually affect the skin of the person when the weather is warm and humid or in the case when the immune system of the person is not working properly. The bacteria usually affect the mucous membranes of the vagina mouth. More rarely the bacteria affect the deeper tissues and the blood. In this case candida infection is life-threatening.
There are several groups of people having the risk of getting candida infection. The infection may also be caused by antibiotics. It happens because antibiotics kill the bacteria that are responsible for fighting candida bacteria. So, the organism stays unprotected from this kind of infection. Diabetics, obese people and pregnant women are also subject to the candida infection. After transplantation of organs the patients take corticosteroids, which can also stimulate the appearance of the infection.
The most common places for which candida infection diagnosis is put are as follows. First of all it is necessary to name the area of anus and navel. The common symptoms are red rash and patchy areas that ooze whitish fluid. The appearance of pus is possible. As a rule the area burns or itches. One of the candida infection types is called perleche. It appears at the mouth corners in the form of tiny cuts and cracks. It is usually caused by the ill-fitting dentures.
Candida infection that develops in the vagina is called vulvovaginitis. It usually occurs with women taking antibiotics, pregnant women and diabetes patients. The symptoms include yellow or white discharge with itching, burning and redness that appears on the external areas and the walls of the vagina.
The infection may occur not only in women but in men too. It happens to the men who are ill with diabetes or whose sexual partner has candida infection. The underside of the penis gets covered with scaly, red and painful rash. Nevertheless, men who suffer from candida infection may have no apparent symptoms.
Candida infection can also be discovered in the mouth. The tongue and the sides of the mouth get covered with white creamy patches. A healthy child can have a thrush. However, if a thrush appears with an adult, it can be a symptom of a more serious disease, such as diabetes and AIDS. Thrush can also be caused by the use of antibiotics.
Painful swelling and pus secreted from the beds of the nails may signify the appearance of candida infection in the nails that is called paronychia. The nails can get yellow or white and even separate from the surrounding skin.
Traditionally, doctors put the candida infection diagnosis to the previously mentioned zones. When there is some doubt, it is necessary to take a sample in order to check the diagnosis. Very often candida infection is found in those women who have a lot of vaginal yeast infections, which are difficult to control.
