The main reason of children and adults bad posture is weak muscles of a stomach and back. So if you wish to have a straight back and correct posture, you have to build up your abdomen and develop muscles of a back. Research in the prevention of back problems - both upper and lower - has proved that doing exercises with the legs lying on a back such as "bicycle" (the rotation by the bent legs is similar to movements at driving on a bicycle); "scissors" (cross horizontal strokes by legs) are especially useful.
For restoration (correct posture) and maintenance of a good posture, doctors recommend water kinds of sports - swimming, water polo, and also riding. Experts prove that it is possible to correct posture, the stoop caused by weakness of muscles, at any age. If deformations in vertebras have occurred anyway, this case is not hopeless too as the process of a back curvature can be stopped successfully.
Certainly, it is better to correct posture during the early childhood years (for girls: 14-15 years, for boys: 18-19 years) while the backbone has not become numb yet.
For children of 3-4 months everyday employment is enough for straightening a back. As for adults, it can take half a year and maybe more. If you have noticed that your child stoops at the table do not slap on his (her) back - it is useless: he (she) simply has weak muscles which need to be strengthened.
If you are disturbed by the posture, do not hurry up to go in the drugstore for buying "saving" strengthening belt (some posture corrector belts). Anyway, it is absolutely useless without gymnastics and other physical conditioning.
If you do not like gymnastics and you have decided to use alternative methods, be cautious. For example, manual therapy, according to the words of a doctor, is counter-indicative to people with chronic diseases of a backbone. So before you start using non-traditional methods of curing your backache, consult an expert.
You would not achieve posture correction without a convenient place of work. In opinion of doctors, the chair and the table should be of such height so that your legs in knees, in ankles and your hands in elbows should be bent under a right angle. The back of a chair should be vertical, but slightly curved to press in your back. The seat should be convenient, but not too soft not to fall down.
It is necessary not to forget about a correct orthopedic mattress for your bed also. For good posture it is better fit the bed on which the rigid plywood basis is covered by a wadded mattress with thickness of 5-6 centimeters. Foam rubber is not good for this purpose because it's too soft. Sleeping should not be associated with twisting, but spreading on a bed surface is better for you. The Pillow should be of such thickness that neither lying on a back, nor lying on one side while sleeping does not make a feeling of bending the backbone.
Don't believe the doctor who claims to buy the modern mattresses which ostensibly have medical effects on the bent backbone. Mattresses like that can't correct posture and, as a rule, they are too soft and just unable to provide a good posture.
Having got rid of heavy bags and your children - of too heavy bags you usually carry, you, will certainly, notice the improvement. However, if you still have to carry a heavy cargo everyday, try to hold it in one hand, instead of carrying it in two, and shift it alternately. For pupils, doctors recommend to use a satchel with a rigid back.
Correct posture is of great importance nowadays! So keep a stiff upper lip and a straight back and get to work.
