So, let's start our eye infections review with the description of such an infection as conjunctivitis. Traditionally, it is called pink eye. Conjunctivitis can be defined as the inflammation of the conjuctiva covering the eye and lining the eyelid inner surface. The causes of conjunctivitis are four. The first cause is represented by viral or bacterial microorganisms that get into the eye. The microorganisms can be transmitted into the eye with the help of contaminated hands, towels or washcloths, cosmetics (especially eye make up), extended wear contacts and false eyelashes.
Viral flu or cold can be accompanied with minor conjunctivitis. Bacteria and viral infections are not that common, but they can be rather serious. These are contagious types of infection.
Conjunctivitis may be caused by various irritants that include smoke, hairspray, chlorine, air pollutants, soap, make up and cleaning fluids. Some people can develop conjunctivitis because of seasonal allergic reactions to grass and other different pollens.
The eye infections review warns that conjunctivitis may be aggrevated by some other conditions undermining the immune system of the body. The conditions include the use of contact lenses and for one eye only.

Keratitis may be caused by bacteria and such types of pathogens as a fungus causing fungal keratitis, an amoeba causing acanthamoeba keratitis and a virus causing Herpes Simplex Keratitis. The most common medicines prescribed for the corneal infections are antifungal, antibacterial and coricosteroids. The aim of the latter is to reduce inflammation.
The following tips will help you prevent from getting corneal infections. First of all, wash your hands before touching your eyes. If you use contact lenses, try to use cleaning contacts. Take care of them with chemically preserved products but not with home-made ones. Wear safety glasses for such risky activities as the work with power tools and contact sports.
