Added: 02/17/2006

Condom modern history is a quite interesting area of investigation as it is likely to reveal certain facts that may be unknown to large public. First and foremost it concerns the variety of condoms available and secondly, it may be quite curious to discover certain facts about the anti-condom trends and about the prevalence of condom in some specific countries.

The word "condom" is familiar to most everyone. From very early age children hear this word and have quite a good idea about what the object looks like, although they may have a rather faint notion about its functionality. In order to avoid misconception it should be made clear that a condom is an item made of materials like latex or polyurethane (widely used in the recent years) that is designed for wearing during the process of sexual intercourse for the purpose of considerably reducing the risk of sexually-transmitted diseases or pregnancy.

Condom modern history witnesses the fact that condoms are widely used and appreciated, however, curiously enough, formerly, despite all of their positive attributes, condoms were undervalued and absolutely unfairly treated even shunned in some cases. However, nowadays people have found quite a number of spheres of condoms application. "Rubbers" (it is the colloquial name for condoms) are used for a variety of different purposes apart from the main one, starting from that of keeping drugs meant for trafficking, or else -- to keep the muzzles of guns dry, or even hold water.

However, prior to looking deeper into the subject of condom modern history it seems reasonable to give a brief historical overview. Firstly, the name "condom" has given a spur to disputes as regards the origin of the word. It has been a conventionally held belief that is in fact based on the folk interpretation of the word that the word "condom" draws it roots from the last name of the doctor, which was Condom (or according to other versions -- Quondam), who was practicing at the time of Charles II, making the well known now items for the King himself. However, there is no official evidence about the actual existence of the doctor.

It is undeniable that nowadays the variety of condoms available is indeed amazing, but what condom modern history witnesses now has taken humanity several centuries to accomplish.

The first condom to even have been found was dated at about 3000 B.C. it is very curious that at such early stages of human civilization people should come up with the idea of creating such an effective birth control method. Speaking about condom modern history the relevant industry needs to be given lots of credit as it seems to have reached the ultimate degree of mastery as far as condom manufacturing is concerned.

Condom modern history can be said to have started with the mass production of rubber condoms after the procedure of rubber vulcanization was patented. The beneficial condom properties account for considerable prevalence of condom in developed countries; however there still are cultures that deliberately ignore the availability of condoms deeming their usage unworthy of decent person.

Another aspect of condom modern history is the existence of various anti-condom trends that can be based on different beliefs. Some anti-condom trends are triggered by the conventional belief that condoms can actually be "pleasure-killers".
