Facial skin of any person has some particular features which tend to change several times as we get older. There may be different reasons for such changes, but the most wide spread one are heredity and environmental factors. But still dermatologists indicate there are five basic skin types: dry, oily, sensitive, normal and combination ones.
Dry skin type is characterized with uncomfortable and tight feelings after washing, it may crack, flack and even bleed in some severe cases. For some people dry skin type features may appear as either chronic or hereditary condition such as psoriasis, eczema or contact dermatitis. But for the majority of people dry skin is considered to be the one they suffer from during the whole life.
It's a common knowledge different people have variable degrees of skin dryness, but still there are some common and spread dry skin type features incidental to any level of this dryness. For example, here are the typical symptoms of dry skin:
-calloused skin,
-not enough oil or sebum,
-skin lacks elasticity,
-rawness and tightness of skin,
-rough texture of skin resulting in itching and flaking.
What is likely to cause dry skin type features? It is believed dry skin can be a result of lack of water (or moisture) on the skin surface. Another reason may be a lack of natural oils in the human's body. That's why dry skin is very often seen in people living in hot dry climates.
Dry skin isn't a disease. It's just a particular condition of the skin. The only irritating affect of dry skin may be itching. As people get older some other dry skin type features may occur - for example, cracking of the skin (especially legs in winter).
If you wouldn't like to worsen the condition of your dry skin medical experts advise to follow some basic dry skin care tips: try not to wash and bath too much, too long and too often, don't apply hot water on your skin, don't use traditional alkali soaps, try to prevent overexposure of the sun, wind and other environmental factors. At the same time it is necessary to avoid swimming in pools and spa baths. To seal in moisture in the skin some oils to bath may be used. In addition use only natural soaps, for example oatmeal or aqueous ones (for severe cases of skin dryness).
If you have dry skin type features try not to wear woolen clothes nest to skin. Primarily cotton clothes is recommended. Among some other important and universal advices there is drinking more water, following an appropriate diet with the necessary amount of vitamins A, C, D and E, applying moisturizers or skin softeners after shower, avoiding overheating in rooms.
Thus, dry skin means that your skin cannot produce enough sebum or oil to keep it naturally lubricated. Dry skin usually has dull and unattractive appearance, it is sometimes itchy and may cause such dermatological diseases as psoriasis, contact dermatitis or eczema. Dry skin is necessary to be regularly and properly hydrated with fresh and tepid water and moisturized with special dry skin care products manufactured for dry skin.
