In theory maybe it seems like a good idea for weight loss: remove part of the stomach and the digestion process is abbreviated. But let's take a closer look. As it is known, gastrectomy is the surgical removal of all or a part of the stomach. Depending upon the extent of cancer it can be total and partial (i.e. when the whole or the part of the stomach is removed). Gastrectomy is the right reason. Gastrectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the stomach. Basically, there are several reasons gastrectomy is performed for. These are to remove malignant tumors or to cure bleeding or perforated stomach ulcer, also to treat stomach cancer, non-cancerous polyps, gastric ulcers or a hole in the stomach wall. There are two types of gastrectomy: subtotal or partial gastrectomy and total gastrectomy.
