Cataract Surgery - Shedding New Light on Poor Vision

Added: 01/18/2006

Eyes are one of the most important and a significant body of human's body. Most full all humans perceive information received through bodies of vision. However, eyes are very vulnerable and sensitive body. Illnesses of eyes during many centuries were incurable. A result of many diseases of eyes became chronic blindness. However, last two centuries the ophthalmology has developed rather intensively. Significant progress in the field of ophthalmology has allowed curing many serious and heavy diseases of bodies of vision.

exOne of the most widespread and heavy diseases of eyes is the cataract. Cataract refers to turbidity crystalline lens of human's eye. The crystalline lens of an eye gradually becomes rigid and dense. A result of cataract is significant deterioration of vision. Carrying of glasses in this case is not effective. Vision is reduced in most cases gradually. In the development cataract passes some stages: initial, unripe and mature. The majority of cataract surgeries are carried out at last stage of cataract development.

The reasons for the development of cataract are unknown till nowadays. However, it is possible to number the reasons promoting the occurrence and development of cataract to attribute: age change tissues of an eye; infringement of metabolism ( diabetes, diseases of liver and kidneys); influence of radiation and poisons; trauma of an eye and surrounding tissues; regular stresses. In opinion of the majority of doctors-ophthalmologists, the most effective method treatment of cataract is cataract surgery.

There are 2 basic kinds of cataract surgery: operation at which the cut of tissues of an eye is conducted and method of ultrasonic capsular cataract extraction. However, the most widespread kinds of cataract surgery are intracapsular cataract extraction and extracapsular cataract extraction.

These techniques have received wide distribution at the end of the last century. The given techniques are the most painless and effective kinds of cataract surgery. At carrying out of these operations the micro-puncture tissues of an eye are carried out. Thus traumatizing of tissues at the given operation is minimal. The size of puncture changes from 2-4 mm. The muddy and dense crystalline lens is divided and deduced from cavity of an eye with the help of special ultrasonic tip. On the place of damaged crystalline lens the flexible artificial crystalline lens is entered. The difference between intra-capsular cataract extraction and extra-capsular cataract extraction will consist in the technique extraction of the struck crystalline lens.

After cataract surgery, executed with the help of techniques of extra-capsular and intra-capsular cataract extraction the patient can start to work and normal activity. The small size of the puncture provides fast healing of wound. Absence of the seam promotes reduction of terms of postoperative rehabilitation. However, it is necessary to note that the given method is expensive enough as performance of similar cataract surgery needs the expensive equipment, high-quality materials (knives, ultrasonic equipment, and artificial crystalline lenses) and high quality experts-ophthalmologists.

However, doctors-ophthalmologists recommend applying special medical products to prevention of the occurrence and development of cataract and with the help of special technique to train eye muscles. Regular inspection at the ophthalmologist and preventive actions will help to avoid operation and to keep good vision for all life.
