Generally five kinds of skin are known: normal, dry, oily, mixed (or combined) and sensitive one. They have variable distinguishing features and peculiarities of care. And as we get older, we start to notice the changes in our skin appearance in response to environmental and way of life factors, we need to pay much attention to proper way of skin care.
Speaking about sensitive skin care it's impossible not to mention, that one of the peculiar sensitive skin features is its being easily irritated and damaged. Among other sensitive skin features there is reduced tolerance to wind, hit, cold, pollution, temperature changes, etc. But still doctors and medical experts have not completely agreed regarding what sensitive skin is and sensitive skin features are.
Sensitive skin is a fine-textured, thin skin. Sensitive skin has quick reaction to both cold, heat and other skin irritants, tender reaction to sunburns and windburns. There are variable factors easy to influence and irritate sensitive skin; among them there are temperature changes, alcohol, cosmetics, some detergents, etc. If the mentioned factors take place you may indicate either red and blotchy skin or allergic reactions to beauty products. At the same time there are some common sensitive skin features which cannot be related to any other skin type. For example, so-called "overreactions" or allergic reactions to beauty products, skin tightening without any visible signs, extreme reactions to different physical stress to the skin (such as shaving).
The majority of people believe they have sensitive skin. But in reality about 46% of the world's population has this type of skin. Most of the time sensitive skin is considered to be related to face, but some exceptions can also take place. Two reasons of sensitive skin are known: either environmental influence or genetic predisposition. If your skin is sensitive due to different mentioned environmental factors you will probably have itching, redness, swelling or dry irritation on your face.
It's worth admitting that sensitive skin care products are widely promoted all over the world. There are thousands of them. But do people choose appropriate ones and do they use these products correctly? Sensitive skin care includes production of different cosmetic products with distinguishing ingredients depending on how sensitive your skin is.
For the majority of people finding the right sensitive skin care products can be a real challenge! Even if you choose tested fragrance-free products ranging from dermatologist to organic, they may still irritate your skin. This probably means you have chosen a wrong product. Be aware that no sensitive skin care cosmetics should contain essential oils, alcohol or chemicals because in spite of the fact the mentioned ingredients may be natural, they are still able to cause skin irritation, redness or itching. Cleanse your face with water-soluble, hypoallergenic products and tepid water. Be aware not to overrush the face, try not to use exfoliants and washcloths.
Thus, sensitive skin care means taking into consideration lots of important factors, possible to influence your skin normal condition.
