Annie Lennox is a British singer. For some time she has been the lead singer in the "Eurythmics". Let's begin with the Annie Lennox biography. But it will contain Annie Lennox discography, too.
Annie Lennox was born on the twentieth of December in 1954 in Aberdin (Great Britain). She studied to play piano and flute. After school she got a scholarship for lessons at the London Academy, but she stopped studying and didn't finish her school. Instead, the allure of rock and roll beckoned. She was hooked and never looked back.
She decided to be a singer in a popular group. She even worked as a seller in a book-shop. For some years Annie Lennox had worked near London but in the evenings she sang. At the end of 1970 she met Dave Stuart and after a while he invited her into the group which he made up. They met in a bar where Lennox worked as a waitress. Stuart was a professional musician then and he had his own group. So, Annie Lennox appeared in the group "The Tourists".
For three years from 1977 until 1980 they had lived together in a civil marriage. In 1980, Annie Lennox and Stuart created their own group which is called "Eurythmics". Their first album "In the Garden" appeared in 1981, but they had to wait for some years in order to reach success. They became famous only in 1983. It happened thanks to the song "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)". During the next decade the duet "Eurythmics" has concerts over the world and their popularity grew day by day.
In 1980s some of their songs became international hits. They were "Here Comes the Rain Again", "Would I Lie to You?", "Missionary Man", "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)", "You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart", "Don't Ask Me Why".
But by the late 1980's, the "Eurythmics" was starting to lose a bit of its luster. Their music was as tight as ever, but the ever evolving taste of the record-buying public was changing. "We Too Are One" Stuart and Lennox in the beginning of 1990s decided to go their own ways with separate careers. But they didn't break the news with an official statement. For those ten years they managed to keep a cap on their personal lives.
In 1984, the magazine "Melody Maker" called Lennox the best British singer of the year and in 1987 she with Stuart was called the best composers of Great Britain.
Critics find Annie a very interesting singer - she is delicate and cruel all at the same time. But she doesn't pay attention to critics' opinion.
In 1986, one more Eurythmics album appeared, it was called "Revenge". This album contained "Thorn In My Side", "Missionary Man", "The Miracle Of Love".
In 1988, in one concert the song "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart" was quite successful. It remained on the top of the charts well into 1990, but it turned out that it became the last. The album "We Too Are One" which was created in 1989 was the most successful album during the existing of the group "Eurythmics".
In 1991, their record company "BMG" released the disc "The best hits of "Eurythmics'.
In 1992, Annie Lennox created her album "Diva" with hits "Walking on Broken Glass" - "Why" and this album was nominated for a "Grammy". Also for this album she took home seven Grammy Awards for the album which was heralded as a hit from coast to coast.
In 1995, another disk "Medusa" appeared in the world. In 1998, there were "Eurythmics" "Greatest Hits". But in 1998, Stuart and Lennox joined and created their own disk "Peace". It was their first album of "Eurythmics" during the ten years. So, the group "Eurythmics" created eleven albums.
Still active in the music industry producing the works of others, Annie Lennox and Dave Stuart remain friends and professional colleagues.
