A medical endoscope is an instrument for modern diagnosis

Added: 01/19/2006

The modern endoscopy is an informative and practically harmless method of medical examination. Nowadays, it replaces the old diagnostic methods. The modern science offers the devices and methods that allow for the visual examination of the coat of mucous in the stomach, esophagus, duodenum, and the large intestine. Moreover, the medical endoscope and fiber optic light guides allow for performing diagnostic manipulations in order to have the information about inflammation, acidity, micro flora, and much more.

The performance data of the modern medical endoscope is very high. It includes the resolution of the optical system, flexibility, and elasticity as well as different accessories. All of this makes it possible to observe most human organs in detail from the coat of the mucous or serious coat of it despite its complex structure and its topography. On the other hand, it is possible to define the different changes in their color and condition and to see a hemorrhages and tumors.

A visual diagnosis of different benign and malignant and chronic and acute diseases is based on the detection of direct and indirect endoscopic characteristics with the help of a medical endoscope. The direct characteristics are shown by patholgoanatomic substances of the disease and such diseases are defined during the direct observation of the center of a lesion. If it is impossible to observe the lesion center directly, then an indirect analyzed.

The first results on fibro scopes lead to the idea that the problem of differential diagnosis about benign and malignant diseases is solved. But, the experience has shown that it is not always possible to tell the difference between benign and malignant lesions. The reason is that they have similar endoscopic characteristics. But, it is possible to expand the diagnostic means by using both a medical endoscope and fiber optic light guides and intravital staining.

Today, there is practically no contradiction to the endoscopic investigation. Some scientists and doctors are sure that there should be a serious selection of patients for endoscopy. It could be explained by a multiplicity of different diseases, the individual peculiarities of patients, and other factors. The contradictions include some chronic pulmonary and heart diseases where the patient requires special preparations of medicine. These problems are usually solved individually for each patient with his or her doctor.

The wide use of endoscopic investigations increases the effectiveness of diagnostic databases and allows for the defining of the disease in its earliest stages. But, certainly, the frequency of different complications increases and therefore discredits the method for both patients and doctors.

Today, it is recommended to have the endoscopic investigation once a year as a means of prevention. If the patient suffers from such chronic diseases such as gastritis, a stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer, or chronic inflammatory disease of the large intestine, then he or she should take the examination with the help of the medical endoscope two times a year during the acute condition.

A medical endoscope allows for the examination of the following organs: the esophagus, the stomach, duodenal, and the large intestine. In addition, the endoscopy of the duodenal indirectly shows the inflammatory changes of the liver, biliary tract, and the pancreas.

A medical endoscope is also used for an intervention surgically when the instruments are introduced to the human organs with the help of the endoscope. In this case, the process of recovery process appears to be faster.

Nowadays, endoscopic operations are widely used in the medical field in many specialties. The need to perform this operation is wider now. The instruments are improving day by day. Please be aware that the patient's selection and preparation for such an operation is very important.
