A Look at International Soccer Confederations

Even though research has demonstrated that the game of soccer - you know the one with a round black and white checkered ball - was invented by the Incas, there are those that feel the game has more than a passing link to Rugby. And I can understand this - because the balls are kind of the same, and the game is kind of the same. Just like horses and lamas are kind of the same because they have four legs. "The motherland" of the American football is Harvard where in 1874 the first game took place. Soon the soccer became popular and in other universities and then it became popular in the whole country. Nowadays there are many soccer confederations over the world.

The etymology of the word "soccer" is not connected with the USA. It appeared later than the word "football" and naturally in England because the same game is not known anywhere else. It happened in this way. In the nineteenth century in England only students played football.

But there was a question - what football did one play? There were no rules and everybody played as he could. But time passed and the play in one university differed from the play in other universities. Later it was called as "a rugby". But there is "a football", too. But all these two different plays were called as "the football".

One had to do something because the both kinds of sport became popular. At last Football Association and Rugby Football Association appeared. So, always everybody mixed up these two kinds of sport. And this problem was solved by students. And the football was called as "soccer". Firstly it was "soccer", but in English it was not good.

The soccer developed in colleges and universities. It became more popular. But in some colleges the soccer was forbidden because of its cruelty. In 1905, Roosevelt decided to reform the American football into the safe game. So he asked the representatives from the following universities - Harvard, Princeton and Yell to help him. So having formed the special committee on its base National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) was created.

About one hundred years passed. But nowadays NCAA promotes the soccer. Today the soccer remains one of the favorite kinds of sport among young people. About thirty five millions of spectators visit games every year. There is a soccer team in every university in the USA and there are over than six hundred soccer student teams there.

The following information is connected with soccer confederations review. The soccer teams unite soccer confederations. Usually it happens in according to the geographical principle - every association has eight-ten teams. College and university teams take part in eleven official games during the season. Annually some prestigious Cups are carried - Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Peach Bowl.

In 1920, American Professional Football Association (APFA) was created. Firstly, it was called as American Professional Football Conference (APF?). It included fourteen soccer teams. In 1922, APFA was renamed into National Football League (NFL).

In 1930, NFL players proved that the future of the soccer depends on the professional clubs. In 1933, official rules were created. In that year ten teams from NFL were divided into two parts - Eastern and Western. During the NFL existence other soccer confederations appeared but later they disappeared because the NFL was the strongest and more popular. Among them there were All-American Football Conference, American Football League (AFL) and World Football League (it exists nowadays).

In 1970, AFL and NFL united into one soccer confederation and it was called NFL. From sixteen teams from NFL and ten teams from AFL American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC) were created.

Nowadays there are thirty two teams in NFL which are divided into two parts - National and American. The popularity of the soccer grows every year not only in the USA but in other countries too and there are their own soccer confederations there. The Asian soccer confederation is also very famous.
