As it has been mentioned above, Naccas, which is also referred to as National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences, is one such independent accrediting commission. Naccas has the status of an autonomous non-profit organization. To give you a bit of the history of Naccas, it was created on the basis of the Delaware Corporation. The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences has its main offices in Virginia, in the city of Alexandria. The history of Naccas functioning has been unfolding since the year of 1969, which is the year of its foundation. At the dawn of its history, the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences consisted of two minor accrediting organizations. Naccas, as it is now, is the result of the merging of the two in order to form a major accrediting agency. Its original name was the Cosmetology Accrediting Commission, which could be abbreviated as CAC. In the year 1981, the name of the organization was changed from CAC to Naccas. The Department of Education of the United States delegates the following powers to the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences: it is authorized to perform the accreditation of postsecondary education schools, cosmetology arts departments, and specialized schools. The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences gives accreditation to over 1,000 educational institutions. These institutions offer all kinds of educational programs and courses, which are attributed with Naccas accreditation, and these schools now have over 100,000 students.
