Islamic women clothes- a harmonious combination of modesty, beauty and grace

Added: 10/25/2005

In many islamic countries and in some western countries women keep wearing traditional islamic women clothes. It is not only a tribute to centuries-old traditions, religious instructions of the Koran, but also a style of life. At the same time, islamic style in world fashion continues to win world podiums. Elements of traditional islamic ladies' wear and accessories are widely used in modern business and youth clothes.

Oriental outwear of islamic populations were intended first and foremost for protection against the scorching sun and hot winds blowing heated desert sands . Long before occurrence of Islam, men and women of nomad tribes were traditionally wearing long, loose tunics and covered their heads with typical headdresses. Endigenious clothing styles are still present in modern islamic women clothes.Laws of Sheriyat regulating clothing and behavior of islamic women went harmoniously into customs and traditions of the peoples of the East. According to the religious postulates of Islam, islamic women clothes should cover feet and hands. It is obligatory to cover head too, with a special female headdress - hijab. It was considered, that the penetrating look of man, can disturb privacy of woman, therefore, that garment protected womn from inquisitive men's glances. According to the laws of Sheriyat, islamic women clothes should not only cover feet and hands, but also hide all female's body round shapes. Needless to say, that a woman is obliged to demonstrate beauty only to her husband, who in return, again according to Sheriyat, is obliged to take care of beautiful clothes and decorations for his wife. There still exists a tradition in most of the Muslim countries, according to which the head of the family goes to a market on weekends where, he has to buy beautiful fabrics and decorations for his wife and daughters. Islamic women clothes are called to preserve modesty and chastity, as demanded by Islam. In Arabia, for example, the islamic women clothes will consist of long dress without sleeves and waist, completely covering feet and hands, the so-called abaya. Free breed abaya, almost completely hides all bends, round shapes and features of woman's figure. Incidently, abaya is traditionally decorated by magnificent embroidery with various geometrical patterns, having brightest colors: green, pink, orange and red. Women from Morocco are believed to enjoy wearing national original suit, consisting of loose short tunic up to knees and a long easy skirt or wide loose trousers. The fact worthy mentioning is that tunic is normally decorated with an embroidery, various applications, beads or even jewels.Tunic and abaya may be manufactured out of completely different fabrics. All depends on the purpose of these clothes' making . Everyday islamic women closes used to be sewen from a practical clap, or more often from wool. In time of rejoicing, when festivals were held, new clothes were warn. Atlas, silk and shiffon were used for tailoring celebratory clothes and clothes for solemn occasions. Tiny hand bells, nacreous buttons or a beaded embroidery served as additional decorations of celebratory clothes. It was noted, that special attention was given to clothes of the girls, who have reached the age of consent. As against clothes of many married women, the islamic women clothes for young girls were sewen from bright, radiant and running fabrics, which would hide shapes and forms of a girl's figure. That was done with the aim to distract attention from young girls and to draw as much attention as possible to the beauty of the bride's clothes at wedding ceremonies.
