When playing card games in a traditional fashion (not online games), the players are put together in a circle surrounding a level surface on which the cards are dealt and played. All cards in a deck have the identical shape and size. Each playing card always has two sides, the back and the face. The backs of the playing cards in a deck are all the same so that they can`t be distinguished. The cards` faces could all be unique, or could contain duplicates, dependent on the game played. In any case, any playing card in a deck is readily recognizable by its face.
The set of playing cards that makes up the deck must be known to all players who are using that deck.
Yet, there are a few card games that have a need of multiple decks. In this situation, a "deck" denotes a set of 52 playing cards or a sole deck, while a pack denotes the collection of "decks" as one.
The procedure of dealing may be done either counterclockwise or clockwise. If the rules do not stipulate this regulation, then it is supposed to be counterclockwise for Asia, East and South Europe and also for all Tarot games and Swiss games; clockwise for card games from North America, Russia and North and West Europe.
A player who was chosen to deal, takes all cards in the deck, puts them together in a stack so that all of the cards are all the same way round and the same way up, and shuffles them thoroughly. A lot of techniques of shuffling have been created, but all of them are intended to randomize the order of cards in a deck. When shuffling, the dealer must hold the cards so that neither he or she nor the other players can see any of cards` faces.
Shuffling should go on until the possibility of a card lying next to the card that was initially next to is fairly small. In reality, a lot of dealers do not shuffle a deck for long enough to attain this effect.
