Watching races on a TV or computer monitor or reading some newspapers reviews and reports is one thing, but nothing compares to attending the races personally. It's no surprise that the race attendance appears to be incredibly high.
Horse racing is a wide field of choice for gamblers.
Some forms of racing are attached to a certain season. As a rule, in winter the national hunt racing is the most popular activity, and in summer the flat racing is more preferable. Also, there are tracks all year round, which do not depend on weather.
Most race courses allow parents to bring their children free of charge. It can be a good recreational place to go for the whole family. There are many other entertainments along with the gambling horse racing there.
The seats of the enclosures at a racecourse are quite similar to a theatre. The best position or a seat with the best view is pretty expensive comparing to the common one. The cheapest places in the racing are in the area called the Silver Ring or Course enclosure. The area for the Members or Club enclosure is the most expensive. Between the expensive and cheap seats there is the middle area which offers good views of the course.
According to the local rules, where a race takes place, the types of horse racing vary, and there may be two or more additional races.
There are also national hunt races. These are the races which involve runners, that have to jump over different obstacles, such as birch fences and water drains. The length of these races is from one to three miles. This type is used for testing the ability of the runners to jump, and also to test their stamina.
The races where you don`t need to jump are called flat races. These are shorter and simpler, but quicker in time. The attention is paid to the speed of the runners, it is on the first place and more important than their stamina.
Each type of races can be divided into handicap or non-handicap. In a handicaps race the best horses are involved, a horse must have the winning history. And in a handicap all horses have the equal chances for the victory. But it is quite easier to predict the outcome in a non-handicap race than in a handicap`s, because they may involve common horses.
Those who are new to gambling horse racing may be surprised and confused that the horses and races have different additional attributes, such as gelding, or maidens. For example, the two year old horses, juveniles take part in nursery races.
These terms actually have some important meaning, so remember the horse`s definitions because it will help you understand the race:
A female horse under four years of age is called Filly.
Gelding is a castrated horse.
Juvenile is a two-year-old horse.
Those horses that have not won a race yet are Maidens.
The old female horse is a Mare.
But be aware of the so called "easy money", bets that are supposedly placed at the last minute. It is a poor chance of it at the tracks. Accept all the pieces of "advice" with a share of skepticism.
Your attention is the best tool at races. Read all the info on the horses participating. Pay special attention to quick starters on short courses, and on a muddy course it also turns into advantage, because it is difficult to maneuver between the other horses in these circumstances. Therefore it is important to leave all the runners behind.
Avoid horses that moved up in the class. No one can say for sure if it will keep its shape at a new class. Also avoid betting on horses that have a time gap from the last race, probably that horse was out for some problem or illness.
Bet only on the winners. It is simple as one: betting on horses which have already won once, twice or even more, you are waiting for them only to repeat their success once more. In other words, you expect them to win.
