The rules of poker are quite easy to understand, poker hands determine the winner, where the Royal Flush is the best of the best poker hands. A poker hand always consists of five cards. There are the highest and the lowest hands. Any high category hand beats a lower hand. If there are more than five cards, anyway only five cards are used for building a hand, the remaining cards do not play any part.

Before playing a game you should be prepared, at least the presence of the basic knowledge of rules is required. Most poker games have similar basic rules. First of all, poker is always a 5 card game, this means that even if you play with 6 cards or 7 cards or whatever, you always use only five cards to make your best poker hands.

It often happens in home plays when players quarrel about whose hand is of higher rank. Most of them may play the game for years without a common knowledge, the basics of the official poker. And still they are eager to risk their money. If you're a home player and going to buy a nice set of clay poker chips, buy a poker manual also or you'd better at least know the rank of poker hands.

Poker is a casino game of 5 cards hands and a standard pack of cards for playing. All hands in poker consist of precisely five cards. In other games of poker, such as seven cards stud, the dealer gives to his players more than 5 cards, but they must choose from them only five which to keep and the final result depends on these five cards. In stud games, game players receive only one card, make a bet and only then they get another card.

Every player believes or makes the others to believe that he will manage to form the best poker hands. Those players having poor hands may come out from the game, in other words to loose, but to avoid being absolutely crashed. At the game end, the best poker hands win all the bets. And in the other variant of the game - the draw poker game, the players first bet and only then change their bad cards to the new cards that they get from the dealer and after that they bet again.

Some small features may vary from one game to another.

In Draw Poker the game starts by the first two players at the table who begin making a small bet. Then the dealer passes them five face down cards. Players check the cards, think over their possibilities and then decide to stay in the game or quit. If they stay, a new bet goes. After the first round the players may exchange some cards from their hands. And only after all bets are finished there is a showdown. The highest rank hand among the others wins.

For the beginners it is much easy to start with the "seven-card stud", because of its simple rules. Each player receives three cards, two of them are face down and one is open. The player with the lowest card begins. In the end the players show their hands and the winning best poker hands get the pot. In all poker games suits are not used in determining the hands and it often happens when the same value hands divide the pot in halves.

The only difference of "high-low" from the "high" games is that the game starts not with the player who has the lowest card in hand, but the highest. At the showdown, end of the game, both a qualifying low hand and the best poker hands get half the pot each.
