As it happens sometimes in this world, the name may outlast the thing that wore that name. That is what has happened with the Gillette company. For, the Gillette Company, same as some of the other great businesses, has had its beginning and its end. Its name has outlived the company, because the Gillette Company does not exist any more. It was founded by King C. Gillette in 1901. Company's headquarter was situated in Boston, Massachusetts. K.C. Gillette has invented first in the world Gillette safety razors and practically revolutionized the area of personal grooming. Over the years the Gillette Company has grown up and became a supplier of different grooming, batteries, personal care and other appliances products to over one billion of people all over the world. The Gillette Company has provided its strong presence in over 200 different regions and countries of the world. However, on October 1st of 2005 the process of purchasing of the Gillette Company by Procter & Gamble was completed. As the result of this transaction the Gillette Company stopped to exist, but not the Gillette brands. For, before this acquisition took place, the Gillette company had under its umbrella a portfolio of global brands, such as Gillette Blades and Razors, Duracell, Gillette Personal Care (including Right Guard and shaving gels), Braun, and Gillette Oral Care (including Oral-B). However, Gillette brand by itself became a very valuable company's intangible asset. In the year of 1999 the estimated value of the Gillette Company was about 43 billion of US dollars and 16 billion of dollars was the estimated value of Gillette brand. This equals the value of Mercedez brand and comes up to 37 percents of the total Gillette company market value.

After becoming the part of Procter & Gamble the Gillette Company, operating a number of brands, became one of the world's leading product suppliers. Today, in addition to Gillette brand, it also owns such brands as Braun, Duracell and Oral-B and supplies its consumers with the products of dental care, batteries, personal and skin care products, etc.  Gillette brand has many different and wonderful products, which were developed during the course of its history. However, presently it manufactures and sells the following products: Trac II Plus, Atra and Atra Plus razors, Sensor, Sensor for Women, Sensor Excel, Sensor Excel for Women razors, Mach3 and Mach3 Turbo, Venus and Venus Divine women razors, M3Power, Venus Vibrance, Fusion and Fusion Power razors. Besides, Gillette brand also offers its consumers a bunch of skin care, wet shaving and hair depilation devices and products, created both for men and women. As I have already mentioned, over one billion of people in many countries of the world daily use one or even several Gillette products. To support such vast product assortment and retail, Gillette brand has over 34 manufacturing operations in 15 different countries.
