In May 2001, TM Cellular, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhard announced the launch of the TMTOUCH Network Management System (NMS), which greatly improved the quality of the interactive services. Based on the Hewlett-Packard's Open View Network Management platform, the NMS solution controlled the three cellular mobile networks of Telekom Cellular Sdn Bhd.: TMTOUCH (GSM 1800), Mobifon 018 (AMPS/D-AMPS 800), and ATUR (NMT 450). The TMTOUCH NMS is also web-enabled.
Improving the quality of Telekom Cellular Sdn Bhd's mobile services and reducing its operational costs were the main objectives of the TMTOUCH NMS, which were achieved by a centralised system that managed and monitored three different networks of the company simultaneously to ensure an optimum network accessibility and usage, while minimising downtime. Thus, TM Cellular, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhard, had a comprehensive telecommunications management solution that includes the network performance management, the fault management, the inventory management, the traffic management and the network configuration management.
Speaking about the launch of the new system, Dato' Dr Ir Haji Mohd Khir Harun, the Chief Executive Officer of TM Cellular, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhard, said, "We believe that it is the quality that makes our customers happy to do business with us. It is the quality that will make them stay in our network. In order to make that happen, it is imperative that our network is well managed. It underscores why we have embarked on the implementation of a Network Management System." He also added, "The TMTOUCH NMS, lead-managed by Hewlett-Packard Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, hopes to address the challenges of the fast changing telecommunications marketplace."
A highly integrated solution that synergises solutions from HP with those of its partners' - ADC Metrica and Telynx, was delivered to the TM Cellular, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhard, by Hewlett-Packard. These companies provided the performance management and inventory management solutions respectively.
"We are pleased to have taken up the Telekom Cellular's challenge to develop a truly integrated Network Management solution that is e-services enabled, on our computing infrastructure," said Badlisham Ghazali, the Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. He added, "The project demonstrates the HP's prowess in the system integration and enterprise-strength computing, as well as our capabilities in implementing complex and comprehensive solutions to meet demanding business requirements for both: the performance and the growth. With our experience in the telecom industry and combined strength in computing systems, the system integration and network management solutions, we have enabled the NMS development to include crucial areas of performance monitoring, fraud management, event correlation, trouble ticketing, network configuration and inventory management."
