The popular calibration software

Added: 04/16/2006

Calibration software is usually used for the adjustment of monitors' settings. It allows to set the best parameters of a graphical display and it also permits making the work with photo images more convenient. This software is necessary for designers, though it may be used by any user. Currently, one of the most popular products in this area is ColorNavigator. A new version of this software is available for the adjustment of TFT displays settings.

Very probably the most popular calibration software in the world is ColorNavigator. This is a specific product, which is used for a high quality calibration of CRT and LCD displays. Recently, the owner of the project Eizo Nanao Corporation announced the next release of the calibration software, which is supposed for LCD monitors.

The calibration software ColorNavigator 4 is compatible with the operation system Macintosh OS 9.2.2/OS X 10.2. Later versions are compatible with operation systems Windows 2000/XP.

The new ColorNavigator versions include an implementation of the measuring devices support, such as X-Rite MonacoOptixXR and OptixPro. It can also work with ColorVision Spyder2 and Spyder2 Pro2. The calibration software also supports the most part of GretagMacbeth Eye-One.

The new version of the calibration software implements next functions:

-Simplified Calibration. This option is for users with small knowledge in the area of color management. It became easier to choose settings for the Printing or Photography/Graphic Design, which can comprise default settings for the brightness, white color or gamma. Advanced users are able to determine these settings by themselves.

-Ambient Light Measurement. This function should be used to measure the conditions of the external light and automatically set them as a calibration point of the white colour. This function is very useful for users, who do not have a projector for viewing the test imprint. The Ambient Light Measurement also helps when the white color point is set incorrectly. This function guarantees that the white point of the monitor responds to conditions of the external lighting. This feature gives a possibility to achieve an exact comparison between hard copies (imprints) and software samples of the imprints. Such software samples are available for the measuring devices GretagMacbeth Eye-One, but not for Eye-One Display/Monitor/Pro.

-Saving of Manual Adjustment Results to Profile. The previous versions of the calibration software had a manual adjustment function. This feature permitted a performance of special manipulations with the brightness, white color point and gamma values after the calibration. In the new version you will be able to save these settings in the ICC profile. This is a very convenient feature for the monitor settings adjustment to account the conditions of external light or to provide the similarity to the test imprint.

- Test Patterns. The new calibration software version has an opportunity to display a screen of the test sample to prove the calibration results or to provide more exact manual settings. Test screen sample displays fully range of the grey colour or only tones of the lower or higher level. There is also an option to display only the gamma values. You can adjust the white colour point and gamma manually. In this case, the results of adjustment are immediately displayed at the test sample screen.

The ColorNavigator is one of the best products in this area. You can download the new version from the Eizo official site and try it for you TFT monitor.
