The First-ever global outdoor advertising campaign is mounted

The first-ever global outdoor advertising campaign was held by Clear Channel. Together with UNICEF it mounted a global HIV/AIDS awareness campaign. The image, unveiled by the companies, is seen in more than fifty countries on all six continents. The production support of the campaign started in the late 2005 and continued in 2006. Clear Channel Outdoor donated about five million dollars to it.

Clear Channel held the first-ever global outdoor advertising campaign. It donated five million dollars to the advertising space and production support. It mounted a global HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in conjunction with UNICEF.

Appearing on billboards, bus shelters, railway stations, buses and airports, this global outdoor advertising campaign reached reach motorists, pedestrians, commuters and shoppers in the world's cities.

"We have an unprecedented opportunity to truly grab and hold the world's attention on behalf of others," said Paul Meyer, a global president of Clear Channel Outdoor. "Thus, we decided to devote the world's first-ever global outdoor campaign to a message that matters globally: the need to help the world's children, who are affected and infected by HIV and AIDS."

The statistics tell us that AIDS made about fifteen million children orphans; in 2005, more than five hundred thousand children died of AIDS and over two million children are HIV positive. The HIV and AIDS impact children globally. Until now it was next to impossible to use a single global outdoor advertising campaign and deliver a single impressive message around the world.

BesterBurke of Cape Town, South Africa, developed a hand-drawn family portrait of a young girl, standing beside the graves of her parents. This horrifying creation was chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of UNICEF and Clear Channel officials and goodwill ambassadors from more than three hundred entries from advertising agencies worldwide. It was adapted to local consumers in all countries and translated into local languages.

The advertising space for this global outdoor advertising campaign is donated to the following countries: Angola, Australia, Botswana, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Lithuania, Mexico, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
