Added: 06/17/2006

Ford is famous not only for excellent cars, but for the company's commitment to road safety as well. Ford Philippines is going to make its country's roads safer for both motorists and pedestrians. To implement that aim into life, Ford initially introduced its program in support of the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Health Day on Road Safety in April 2004.

Famous for excellent cars, Ford is committed to its country's road safety as well. Ford Philippines is going to make roads safer for both motorists and pedestrians. Its program in support of the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Health Day on Road Safety was initially introduced in April 2004 (when its road safety billboard was established along the Balibago/Tagaytay road) and went on in 2005, when two main projects were identified: the Road Safety Fund and Responsibility in Driving Education or R.I.D.E. program.

P1.000 for every Ford and Mazda vehicle sold in the Philippines was donated to the road safety fund. Ford Philippines started this campaign in March 2005. Educate drivers and promote road safety in the Philippines (which included a road safety billboard unveiling and educational programs) - this is where the funds were used. The road safety promoting contained not only the road safety billboard establishing, but also different training programs, research and studies on different aspects of road safety and other identified road safety projects.

R.I.D.E. is a comprehensive road safety educational program. It was specially designed to educate today's drivers and the drivers of the future. A number of sessions were developed to fit the specific audience: high school and college students, Ford dealerships and customers, Ford clubs and the general public.
Such topics as driving accident facts, road signs and common traffic violations, defensive driving, road hazards, driving etiquette and techniques, car conditions and understanding vehicle safety features were included in the R.I.D.E. sessions for students.

Customers and employees enjoyed the R.I.D.E sessions that comprised driving accident facts, road signs and common traffic violations, defensive driving techniques, handling emergency situations, vehicle safety technologies and hands-on exercises on parking, using an anti-lock braking system, brakes, aqua planning and basic auto maintenance.

Henry Co, the President of Ford Group Philippines, said: "Following the initial Road Safety activities that we rolled-out in 2004, we are taking those initiatives further. We want to reach out to more people and inform them about the importance of road safety and how they can practice safe driving." He also added: "The concern on roadside injuries continues to rise as reported by the WHO. As one of the world's leading automotive manufacturers and a corporate citizen, we would like to do our share to promote road safety."

April 2004, the Ford Philippines' Road Safety Campaign began via the unveiling of its Road Safety Billboard along the Balibago/Tagaytay road. The Ford Motor Company reinforces its commitment to driver and pedestrian safety. It has developed a series of events and road safety initiatives, aimed at reducing accidents, death and injuries caused by road traffic collisions. The Ford Philippines' Road Safety Campaign is a part of this global effort of the Ford Motor Company.
