The 6-megapixel Olympus Camedia C-60 Zoom is widely popular among amateurs of photography, who need a compact, good quality digital camera. It has a set of advantages over other Olympus products, for instance, an LCD screen size (1.8 inches instead of 1.5 inches), a battery capacity (1,230mAh instead of 1,100vAh) and a connection speed (USB 2.0 instead of 1.1). Among additional features a 3X optical zoom, thirteen shooting modes and a large amount of shutter speeds (1/1.000 second to eight seconds) should be mentioned.
Due to its compact size and all-metal case with a sliding lens cover, this model is perfect for traveling. Moreover, a switching-off problem is solved by the design of the camera. In order to avoid an accidental turning on, an open cover protrudes slightly, thus, the camera will be turned off if you hold it with a little extra pressure.
As many other Olympus products, the C-60 Zoom has a wide amount of capabilities, like six flash modes and five ISO settings. One of the modes, a Landscape+Portrait mode, is really convenient for keeping both a background and a subject in focus.
Covering a typical "span" of 38mm to 114 mm makes the Olympus lenses, the range of which is really impressive, equivalent to 35mm-cameras. The C-60 Zoom is not equipped with an AF-assist lamp, which makes it harder to lock the focus in low light.
As with other Olympus products, a set of tests was held with the C-60 Zoom and the results are the following:
- The autofocus was a little bit uneven in low light. Perhaps, this is due to the lack of an AF-assist lamp.
- The LCD screen was perfect for taking pictures in direct sunlight. It was designed with the semitransmissive (low-reflective) material in order to keep better visibility in bright light.
- In general, the quality of the pictures was good; however, in some photos the tendency toward a slight red or yellow color was noticed. The lack of light also influenced the picture quality greatly. Details were lost with the low light sharpness.
- A variety of modes and settings will be pleasant for those, who like experiments. The night mode engages the noise filter automatically and is helpful in capturing low-light photos with great color saturation. Nevertheless, those, who prefer the automatic mode, may be disappointed with this model's low-light pictures.
Despite the fact that there are some better choices for picture quality among other Olympus products, the C-60 Zoom still is popular due to its distinctive features.
