The Excite Corporation announced the release of the Excite Communities beta-version. This is software for the organization of the information communities. This message appeared some days after Lycos Company had purchased the company WhoWhere and Angelfire web-node. Two months ago the Excite Corporation obtained the Throw Company that produces software for the creation of different communities in the Internet.
Excite supports the service via a People & Chat channel that allows an organization of the communities at the dedicated web-node. People can join these communities to communicate in an interactive mode, use electronic message boards, design books and calendars for a shared access or perform other activities. The users of this node decide whether they will take other people to their community or share their internal information. Finally, these communities can transform to the new generation of the web pages.
The recent purchasing of the Angelfire, GeoCities and Tripod nodes by the large companies pushed the process of the basic web-pages development. The basic web pages that were available only for several Internet providers became opened for many business organizations. Apple declared the creation of basic web-pages for the Macintosh computers buyers. The Wells Fargo Bank also stated about the creation of a special web page for its customers.
Managers decided to recalculate the common sums of spending and profits for the common web nodes to evaluate their profitability. Earlier Xoom, Angelfire, GeoCities and Tripod competed with each other by the volume of their free web space and the ability of the modern templates and tools.
Some companies that provide non virtual hosting proposed hypertext tools for their clients. The users can utilize these tools to integrate their information with the pages of other community's members. The New Excite service allows to create the auto filling information and to design an external look of the page.
The node Homestead.com appeared in the beginning of 2005 and it can be treated as the most powerful competitor for Excite. Here you can find tools for the communities' creation as well, although, they use the towage technology instead of templates.
The Yahoo Corporation developed its own program of the information communities' organization. The Yahoo Clubs members have the same opportunities as the Excite Communities clients. They can create their own communities, chat in the real time mode, use Yahoo message boards, e-mail, etc.
These new basic web pages attract more new users and they are not clients of Geocities and Tripod. At the same time, the GeoCities and Tripod organizers involve more and more clients for their services.
Simultaneously, the Lycos company representatives announced the future combining of Tripod and Angelfire nodes. This action will make activities of the Excite companies harder to perform, since Lycos wins the competition between these two corporations. The Lycos Company started the web community creation before Excite. Yahoo noticed their achievements and promoted them in the web. That was the first step for the web communities' development.
