APCO: Who are they and what they do

Added: 03/25/2006

APCO is an international communication consultancy specializing in building relationships with an organization's key stakeholders. These relationships are critical to the full range of challenges the clients face. APCO believes an organization's reputation is the culmination of how such challenges are managed. In the end, this work builds and protects an organization's value and the value of its products and services.

The goal is to be trusted partner of choice and help to create this value - by pushing the boundaries of communication and providing global service, culture by culture. According to APCO its client list includes "clients include governments, corporations, industry associations and non-profit organizations. APCO also includes among its clients six of the top 10 companies on Fortune's Global 500," it states. In July 2004 APCO Worldwide had been hired by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information on a six-month contract to promote stronger ties with the U.S. government. APCO always shares the client's perspective. APCO team includes former ambassadors, government officials, elected leaders, political consultants, journalists and executives from both business and the not-for-profit community. APCO focuses on getting headlines for others, not making them for itself. Its work ensures that client's message is heard loud and clear in his own voice and helps the clients to achieve such goals as: a multinational corporation launching a new global brand to expand its market share, an emerging global company seeking to establish its corporate reputation, a leading cosmetics company entering the Asian marketplace, a foundation working to enhance the community in which it is based, etc. APCO success is the communication of the right information, to the right audience, at the right time. The good and profit combination for the business. APCO client list is the real proof of its success and includes such well-known companies as: British Airways, California Alliance for Energy & Economic Stability, GlobeXplorer, Government of Canada, Microsoft, Norilsk Nikel, Philip Morris, United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information, the Turkish Government, and so on. On year 2003 APCO was named the International Agency of the year by The Holmes Report, a PR industry newsletter. In 2004, it was listed as one of the top PR firms by The Hill, a Washington, DC newspaper. PR Watch is a quarterly newsletter whose stated mission is to expose deceptive and misleading public relations campaigns. It frequently writes about PR campaigns which it considers to be anti-environmental but also covers issues ranging from labor rights to world affairs. PR Watch, a project of the Center for Media and Democracy, is the creation of Center director John Stauber and PR Watch editor Sheldon Rampton. The newsletter is dedicated to investigative reporting on the public relations industry. It serves citizens, journalists and researchers seeking to recognize and combat manipulative and misleading PR practices. It specializes in blowing the lid off today's multi-billion dollar propaganda-for-hire industry, naming names and revealing how public relations wizards concoct and spin the news, organize phony 'grassroots' front groups, spy on citizens, and conspire with lobbyists and politicians to thwart democracy.
