In today's IT world, everything tends to get smaller and more powerful. Taking this fact seriously into account, Motorola Inc, the second world leader in global mobile communications, seamless mobility products and solutions, has recently announced the launch of a small and light "Q" phone with a built-in QWERTY keyboard. Unveiling one of the thinnest (11.5 mm) and lightest cell phones Motorola that will deliver a fully-loaded package of email, voice, and entertainment, the company unmodestly refers to the "Q" as being "wickedly cool", combining "the best voice, data and design technology in one ultra-thin, intelligent, hard-working, and incredibly must-have device".
Being among the first devices based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, this Motorola mobile phone promises to provide rich multimedia capabilities combined with quality data and seamless connectivity in one device that is 50% thinner than any other similar device on the market. Since Windows Mobile 5.0 delivers scalable and cost-effective mobile messaging support with Exchange 2003 and is also optimized for a wide variety of third party email solutions, Motorola Q phone will provide a set of cost-effective alternatives for businesses looking to leverage their existing infrastructure, training and support systems, while reducing the need for additional IT investment.
Motorola Q will also offer owners the excellent opportunity to combine work and entertainment through a set of additional features. The phone's Web surfing capabilities, PIM functionality with picture caller ID support, a 1.3 mega pixel camera with photo lightning that supports video clip capture and playback, the possibility to play music (supporting iMelody, MIDI, MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA, WAX, and QCELP), store images (in GIF87a, GIF89a, JPEG, WBMP, BMP, PNG) and play videos (H.263, MPEG-4, GSM-AMR, AAC, WMV) in the widest variety of formats show the makings of an excellent multimedia device. A miniSD slot will offer additional storage for music, as well as other types of files.
What about the Q's display - it is indeed beautiful. Landscape-oriented, featuring a large, vibrant, 320 x 240 - pixel screen with QVGA resolution, supporting some 65,000 colors and having the diagonal size of 2.4 inches, the phone's display looks great from a wide viewing angle. Its reflective backing should make it easily readable in direct sunlight - a "must" feature for business users.
Besides, the new Motorola mobile phone incorporates a QWERTY keyboard for easy text entry that is comprised of electro-luminescent keys, easy-to-use one-handed navigation thumbwheel, a 5-way navigation button and internal antenna. The cool and compatible Bluetooth-enabled accessories are also built-in, should you want to connect them to compatible printers or a pair of RAZRWIRE sunglasses.
Other highlights of Motorola Q include dual stereo speakers and high-quality speakerphone capabilities perfect for conference calls, as well as speaker independent dialing that enable hands-free multi-tasking so useful in today's busy work environment. Measuring in at 117 x 64 x 12 mm, the new Motorola mobile phone weighs in at 115 g including its 1130 mAh rechargeable, exchangeable Lithium Ion battery, which claims to offer up to 4 hours of talk time and 8 days of standby time.
Unfortunately, no "hands-on" information is available about this new Motorola mobile phone yet, because it is only expected to be available from the first quarter of 2006. Till that time, we hope the company will disclose some more details on which operators will bring this smart device to the market and the prices to expect.
