Modern autos in each new generation become larger. If the model name remains the same, the auto finally becomes so large that it changes its class, however according to its name the auto remains small and modest. The bright example is VW Golf, which nowadays has nothing to do with small and smart hatchback of the 80-s except body assembling. As to its size it can be referred to the D-class and for its price one can buy
Korean electronic-mechanical carrier of representative dimensions. Such name permanency along with price and dimensions growing often confuse consumers.
But marketing specialists dictate designers their ideology - to produce every time "more" car with the same name, unfortunately forgiving to add, for the same money.
New universal of the BMW 3-d series were not exceptions and also faced this "acceleration concept". Touring E90 (in-house determination of the new generation 3-d model) is 42 mm longer, 78 mm wider and 9 mm higher than universal in the body E46 (the novelty's dimensions are 4520x1817x1418 mm).The wheel-base of E90 is 2760mm, that is 35mm longer than of E46.
All these extra millimeters mean that passengers must feel themselves freer in the compartment and the boot is ready for housing larger stuff. The capacity of the boot is 460 litres, that is 25 litres more than of E46.If to assemble the rear seats the capacity will make up 1385 litres. Just compare: the boot of Audi A4 Avant can house 442-1184 liters, Mercedes-Benz C-class - 470 - 1184 litres.
The boot door glass of Touring E90 opens separately from the door itself. This model is equipped, like all other new BMW models, with RunFlat tires. They make it possible for the auto to move after the tire blowout.
Designers, unlike marketing specialists, always "fight" with the dimension growth, but specialist always wins. Then designers try to hide the increasing of the external dimensions. In Touring they used small rear windows and the glass of the 5th door, and also considerably tilted massive rear uprights.
Maximum speed of the BMW 325i Touring is 243 km/h. It gathers 100 km/h in 7.2 sec. The average fuel consumption is 8.6 litres per 100 km. BMW 320d Touring gathers its 100km/h in 8.6 sec, its maximum speed is 223 km/h. Dynamic characteristics of other modifications are not reported yet. All cars are will be equipped with six-step manual gearbox. Automatic transmission can be ordered. The world sales will begin in September, 17 after the car premiere in car saloon on
Frankfurt. It is still unknown how much these new universals will cost. Present all-wheel drive 2.5-litre universal is approximately 6 000€ more than the same model in sedan body and 8 000€ more than sedan with rear drive only.
