In the 1940's, microwave ovens, tape cassettes and colored televisions hadn't been experienced. Today, countless new items could be added to that list including iPods, cell phones, computers, and blackberries. In the 1940's, these names alone would have been thought of as very different ideas. Can you imagine what will happen in the next 70 years? What type of world do you envision your child will live in when they are grandparents?
The X-box and Sony Playstation were mere futuristic predictions brought about by the Star Wars fans gone wild! The Luke Skywalker and Roger Starbuck fans were in their glory when the beginnings of arcade games showed up on the public scene in malls and in stores. Millions of dollars were made by these companies...do you think they made some futuristic predictions of their own?
Automobiles are another area where futuristic predictions have been made since their dawning. Henry Ford would beam with delight if he was able to know the innovations and advancements that technology has allowed modern man to use in furthering his invention! Europe leading the way, British technology and German engineering has lent us the ideas and techniques to take the Ford, the Dodge, The Chrysler and others beyond anyone's imagination...at least anyone outside the research and development teams of these great cars!
Working from one's home is beginning to take place more and more these days. The futuristic predictions of this segment of people increasing can only be estimated. Society's intolerance of those in authority over them and their inability to adhere to rules and regulations lends itself to efforts in making money without having to report at a certain time or to a certain place. Customer service representatives working from home in their pajamas and drinking their coffee is more common place than any of us is aware.
The internet has brought us many advances, and setbacks. Meeting new people on the internet via dating sites, myspace.com, or any other common interest site, have united people...people who were married left those marriages for an image on a screen and a profile that is probably not even honest. People have been attacked, molested, raped and murdered by providing personal information on these websites and actively interacting with people they don't even know. The world our children will grow up in scares many. There is little that can be done as long as we refuse to "get back to the basics" of parenting our children, teaching and enforcing personal responsibility and respect for self and others. These are the fundamental ideas that our country was founded on. We've turned away from all of these, rationalizing that our rights are being "violated".
Our children watch us...don't ever mistake that! What type of world do YOU create for your child?
