Of all the fortune tellers and gypsies, sages and soothsayers, it is those who choose to practice the "art" of uromancy to foretell future events or to determine good and bad omens that baffle most of the world, I would think. This practice of studying or of tasting urine to tell someone's future is so unbelievable, I can't imagine what type of person would do this sort of thing, the diviner OR the seeker!
Here in the United States and, from a medical standpoint, the study of one's urine is almost as important as the study of their blood. These two together can accurately predict many conditions including those of pregnancy, kidney or liver function, certain cancers can be detected this way along with many, many other diseases. The medical community agrees that the study of one's urine is said to reveal many things about a person's daily life. For example, if the person's urine is clear in color, the person may not be drinking enough water, leading to dehydration. If the urine is very yellow, almost brown in color and has a strong odor, there might not be enough water in the person's system. Speaking of what is in the system and what isn't, many job interviews walk alongside a drug test; again, using urine. Urine testing is used to detect the presence of solutes, which are measured to determine if illicit drug activity has been a part of someone's life in the recent past. This test result can make or break one's ability to hold certain types of jobs.
We as living, thinking people have always had a fascination with the unknown, the future and the supernatural. Ancient superstitions and stories have been passed down from generation to generation and entertain ideas that are foreign to most. However, in seeking to know more about ourselves, our futures and our innermost thoughts and feelings, many have sought out divinatory individuals who practice the art of uromancy. Along with the other forms of fortune telling, like the reading of Tarot cards, etc; people look to this art form as a way to have someone tell their future. By interpreting the bubbles that arise in the pot of urine a person is asked to use, the divinatory is able to examine and reveal the person's future. The hardest part of uromancy for some to digest (literally) is the "tasting" portion of uromancy. The divinatory tastes the urine as well as examines it by sight and smell to make these readings accurate. If the bubbles are large and spread far apart in the water pot that is given to the seeker, then the divinatory assumes this is a good omen; giving leeway in the person's finance and emotional areas of life. If they are small and close together, this is seen as a bad omen coming upon the person, illness, loss or death of a loved one.
Sometimes, pregnant women would seek this form of art out in trying to determine the sex of the child they would soon give birth to. Women who were about to be married would also look toward this type of divination to find out if the marriage would be a good one and how many years happiness to expect. Whatever the reason, I would still imagine one having a hard time taking the necessary steps for someone to tell your future this way!
