What is the meaning of dream

Added: 11/27/2006

The meaning of dreams can be quite complex. Dreams can plague you because of something you bate before you went to bed, they can be caused by too much or too little sleep, they can be caused for health reasons, old trauma's and a myriad of other incidental reasons, but what do they do for you and why must you have them? The answers to these questions may be elusive, but dreams effect us all, like it or not.

The meaning of dream and the dream world has plagued man for some time. The meaning of a dream and the meaning of dream worlds have been covered by everyone from Shakespeare to Freud. Even the King James Version of The Bible covers some dream world imagery. What is the meaning of dream, or the meaning of a dream? We all dream, and most of us have nightmares, but are the meaning of dream worlds or dreams truly interpretable? Dreams can be random bits of stored imagery that resemble pure insanity, they can be emotion, and they can be non-linear or linear. I have dreams like the following all the time:

This great meat grinder churns person after person like that scene in the Wall spitting out hatred and blank faced people and dignitaries wrapped in fat cats bedraggled with deceit and lies.

The meat grinder keeps churning 6-7 days a wee to make the same garbage over and over and over again. Out pops junior full of hope and joy in pre-processed foreign meat patties, remaining happy for about five seconds until the college trained doctor slaps him betwixt some bread with cheese chock full of a lawsuit. Malpractice is a bitch. So are late fees, Income taxes, and all that other stuff that everyone hates.

Yeah, I get it, dreams are a lot of bunk nonsense, though some great brains over the past hundred and fifty years believe that dreams and the dream world can hold the key to happiness. Good sleep and pleasant dreams can equal a good life, and vice-versa.

But what I don't get is why punish me with nightmares? I've never hurt anyone and I'm not a bad guy. If dreams are so important why not make the necessity for them obvious. Why so many games? Dreams should be releases from reality but in a lot of cases and for a lot of people they are nothing but hell on Earth. Some people have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get therapy to recover from their nightmares, which are, in most cases, often just bits of the subconscious reliving some heavy traumatic experience from your youth, and of course there's the whole Freud philosophy of the Oedipal complex, though most psychiatrists today shy away from Freud's theories and are of the Jungian school of thought, Sigmund Freud is considered the father of modern psychology, and hardly anyone disputed the importance you dreams and your subconscious mind carry when it comes to your day to day life.

Regardless of what causes dreams and nightmares, trying to interpret dreams can certainly be a very tricky business, and with something so important dreams are not something you should be guessing at. It is best to get licensed trained doctors who have spent twelve or more years studying nothing but dreams and treatments for the human mind if you have a serious problem with nightmares or bad dreams. Dreams may seem like harmless drivel, but obviously they hold a lot of sway over your daily life, happiness, and state of mind. A healthy dream life and nightlife can add to the overall health of the soul, this is nothing that should be taken lightly, whether you're dreaming about Bugs Bunny or total Armageddon, dreams are always more than what they seem to be.
