What's A Virgo?

While most people spend their morning cup of Joe (otherwise known as coffee) catching up with Garfield, Lucy, Linus, and Snoopy via the "Funny Pages," there are still the others who begin frantically flipping pages in anticipation of landing on the backpage of the Style section. Be damned if they miss the featured Virgo horoscope of the day! Virgo is the astrological sign that occupies the period from late August through late September in Western civilizations. Western countries, like the United States of America for instance, use the tropical zodiac calender under which the Virgo constellation is occupied by the sun from the period of the twenty-third of August until the twenty-second of September. And that means if you where born within in that timeframe, then you hold the distinction of being a full-fledged Virgo. The opposite zodiac sign under the tropical zodic of Virgo is Pisces, otherwise known as the fish.

The Virgo Under Other Zodiacs

In non-Western countries, tropical astrology takes on another form and is often replaced by either the Sidereal Zodiac Calendar or the Solar Zodiac Calendar. And that has a way of changing the requirements for what it takes to become a card-carrying Virgo. The sidereal zodic calendar is ocassionally used in the Western world and universally revered by Jyotish astrologers. Under the sidereal zodiac, the Sun is occupied by the Virgo during the period between the sixteenth day of September and the fifteenth of October. The solar zodiac, on the other hand, is a little bit different. Both the solar and sidereal zodiacs begin on the same day, September 16th, but whereas the sidereal zodic runs only until the fifteenth of October, roughly the same number of days as the tropical zodiac, the solar zodiac for Virgo runs all the way to October 30th. Which obviously makes the sidereal zodiac calendar larger than the Western's tropical zodiac.
