Some Dream Analysis Symbols Suggest Sex

Added: 12/11/2006

At night some people dream about the day's events or of somewhere they wish to be or have been such as Paris or London. In addition, people often dream about being a famous chef or fashion designer. Moreover, people can dream that they have superpowers such as the ability to fly or the ability to see through walls. In other words, many people dream when they are asleep.

Dreams are a part of people's lives because dreams usually take place at night when people are asleep; although sometimes people do daydream when they are at work or at play. However many professionals are very interested analyzing the meaning behind people's dreams. Psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers are particularly interested in interpreting people's dreams. In fact, all of the mentioned professional occupations have the specialization of dream analysis in their field and students who study the aforementioned professions often wish to select dream analysis as their specialization. Students especially studying the field of psychology might learn about dream analysis symbols. It has been claimed by many psychologists and psychiatrists believe that most dream analysis symbols are linked back to sex and sexual pleasure and/or sexual frustration. One person who studied dreams and the meaning behind dreams was Sigmund Freud.

Sigmund Freud wrote about his ideas regarding dreams in the book called The Interpretation of Dreams which was published in Germany in November, 1899. The publication of this book was the beginning of Freud's dream analysis which Freud believed was the "royal road to the unconscious". Sigmund Freud believed that there was a psychological technique which made it possible to interpret dream and with this application of this technique every dream will reveal itself as a psychological structure that is loaded with significance and one that may be assigned to a specific place in the psychic activities of the waking state. Freud also wanted to clarify the processes which underlie the strangeness and the obscurity of dreams, and to deduce from these processes the nature of the psychic forces whose conflict and/or cooperation is responsible for our dreams.

The Interpretation of Dreams introduced people to the Ego and describes Freud's theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation. It also seemed like Freud also was a lover of dream analysis symbols. At one point in his career, Sigmund Freud encouraged the idea that dream interpretation for symbols of sex such as vaginas and penises. For example, ladders, stairs, and steep inclines and going up and down them are symbolic representations of the sexual act. These views of Freud's have for the most part been abandoned in favor of more comprehensive methods and ideas of psychology and psychiatry. In this book Sigmund Freud discusses what would later be labeled the Oedipus complex. The Interpretation of Dreams is widely considered to be Freud's most important contribution to the profession of psychology. It seemed as if Freud was very proud of this book himself because he said that insight like this comes about once in a lifetime. The basic principle behind this magnum opus is that dreams were all forms of wish fulfillment which are attempts by the unconscious to resolve a conflict of some sort whether the conflict is a recent conflict or the conflict is something that had been bubbling in the recesses of the mind for many years.

Sigmund Freud's theory of dream interpretation is very interesting and complex. But, his notions of dream analysis symbols especially in regards to sex are a bit overdone. However, that being said, dream analyze seems very creative.
