The English astrologer John Addey was born 15 June 1920 in Barnsley, England. One of the founders of the UK Astrological Association John Addey played a significant role in the furtherance of astrological research in the United Kingdom. Crippled from an early age he provided the physically disabled with consultations and lectures in astrological concepts that generated interest to all.The English astrologer John Addey was crippled from an early age as a result of an uncommon and incurable rheumatism that required he use a wheelchair. John Addey had been interested in astrology from an early age and in 1946 his interest in astrology steered him in the direction of C.E.O. Carter's Astrological Lodge located in London.

Addey studied for his F.A.S. diploma and in 1955 began his own research into the building blocks of astrology or Harmonic Astrology, a term that came to reflect Addey input.

On 21 June 1958 together with Charles Harvey, Addey founded the UK Astrological Association. Together with Harvey and Addey was Roy Firebrace from Carter's Astrological Lodge, a sidereal astrologer and founder of the magazine, Spica. Support for the Astrological Association included other prominent astrologers from the Lodge such as Charles Carter, Joan Rodgers, Margaret Hone and Ingrid Lind.

A primary objective that the Association presented itself was to raise astrology's profile in the eyes of the general public. John Addey was a mathematician and through his interpretation of mathematics and statistics was able to provide credible insights into the workings of planetary activity in relation to the passage of time as translated by the stars. In addition John Addey was able to refer to his deep understanding of Platonic philosophy whereby time itself permits the development of an idea which is simply an extension of the initial thought.

John Addey provided the first significant attempt to provide a coherent astrological model through his understanding by publishing his work 'Harmonics in Astrology'. The book outlined a system based on established philosophical principles and recorded evidence. In the astrology field this book is of major significance and is recommended to those interested in seeking a deeper understanding of astrology and its concepts. Harmonics in Astrology makes plain that all planetary activity can be translated in terms of numbers and cycles. This small sounding achievement permits astrology to return to the dignified realms of its origins by association with ancient scholars such as Pythagoras and Plato moving it out of the arena that challenges unquestioned traditions. John Addey like many astrologers identified an existence between the universe and the Earth able to be translated into a language that all could understand and by doing so would ultimately move mankind closer to a stance of appreciation of the celestial language that might barely be considered possible. Through the suggestion of a fresh approach to astrology Addey provided both students and researchers with a credible mechanism to employ in the use of astrology divination and understanding. John Addey also recognized the potential of understanding 'the self' by translating the significant extracts relevant in a horoscope as displayed by the stars.

John Addey wrote a second book titled 'Collected Writings' which adopted a less serious approach to the study of astrology, but did nonetheless provide useful insights.

John Addey astrologer died on 27 March 1982.
