Is the Armageddon Prophecy Unavoidable?

Added: 12/11/2006

An interpretation of the Armageddon Prophecy as indicated in the Book of Revelation in the Christian New Testament, suggests an apocalyptic catastrophe. The problem for religious historians has been the identification of a specific time when Armageddon is due. However, another less considered question is whether Armageddon can be delayed perhaps even indefinitely?

Ask anyone what Armageddon means to them and they will usually respond with the statement 'the end of the world'. What does 'the end of the world' mean? Is it a big bang that erupts and destroys the Earth and all life with it or is it simply a complete change to life as we know it? An accurate interpretation is important if the true meaning of the term Armageddon is to be understood.

The Armageddon Prophecy was written thousands of years ago, at a time when the world to the people who lived in it consisted of many fewer races than we know about today. The world to the people who suggested an end to their world would come when Good and Evil met for one final battle does not necessarily equate to the entire globe as we know it today. Indeed it may only refer to a specific race of people. Interestingly before World War 2 the World War 1 was commonly referred to as Armageddon. The suffering of the troops at the frontline was undoubtedly an image of hell that surpassed the imagination of any human being and could, even today, still be considered as a time when humankind visited hell. However it was not the end of the world, although many millions did perish.

To suggest that the Armageddon Prophecy relates to the entire world is suspect, it seems reasonable to suggest however that Armageddon is in fact more likely to be relative to a specific race. If on Planet Earth any race of individuals decided to war on every other race to the last it is very probable that they would eventually be eliminated. It seems unlikely that any single race or disciplined religious following could achieve such a threatening status in our dimension, even though history has shown that individuals have attempted to do so.

The missing ingredient in the Armageddon Prophecy is the spirit dimension which will have some input into a catastrophe such as the end of Planet Earth. The Armageddon Prophecy could more easily relate to a period when the spiritual and physical dimensions actually meet to battle with the good and bad that exist in both dimensions. However in order for that to happen it will be necessary for a great deal more visible communication between the two dimensions than is possible today. An increase in the Earth's population has contributed to the appearance of more psychics in our world and also of more individuals interested in the paranormal. This seems to indicate that if the Armageddon Prophecy is something that cannot be avoided it will only occur when both dimensions are capable of easily interacting with each other.

Those who refer to the single mention of Armageddon in the bible as an occurrence which predicts the end of all human life expose their own limited understanding of the Universe in which we live. For the good in our physical dimension to actually meet head on in battle with the evil element that exist the Armageddon bible reference would have included the spiritual aspects of such a battle. In addition it seems conceivable to suggest that as we near the Armageddon Prophecy both the good and evil elements in both the physical and spiritual dimensions will properly know who they are and what they have to do. Currently there are too many individuals lacking the necessary navigation to make the Armageddon Prophecy appear as anything other than a potential future event.
