Do Your Children Read Their Daily Teenage Horoscopes?

Added: 01/16/2007

The world of a teenager is so different than the real world the rest of us live in; no less important, though, are the daily goings-on in their lives! The daily teen horoscopes that are published are meant for entertainment purposes, but if your child is reading them and applying their daily decisions based on what is contained in their horoscope, you might want to discuss a different thought process with him.

All teens are alike-whether from America or elsewhere in the world. A recently published bbc monthly teen horoscope article had this to say, "Be watchful of those who appear to be your friends, their agenda's will cause strife and cause others to leave your company." Now, who of us could not take that and apply it to our day? Even in the "real world" of adults, this is something that can happen in any situation, anywhere in the world. However, when published in the daily teenage horoscopes that are read by millions, a teen may actually live in fear because they always think that someone is "out to get them." They may sever long lasting relationships or refuse to make new friends because of fear.

Teens who read these daily teen horoscopes do so for any number of reasons; recreation, as is their purpose, or for a look at what their sign is gifting them with today, which is not the purpose of a horoscope! Teens who make decisions based on their daily teenage horoscopes are taking risks. No sign of the zodiac is going to accurately asses your current situation and be able to apply it so broadly as to correctly identify what is going to happen in your day! Teens looking to their daily teen horoscopes for advice in making relationship decisions, or, heaven forbid, romantic relationships can expect to be disappointed. The basis for those types of decisions should come from within your teen, not from someone who is publishing an article. Your teen is the only one who REALLY knows what goes on in their daily lives. Daily teenage horoscopes can tell your teen that they should or shouldn't do something; this might harm your teen in the field of their studies or in the area of sports, friends, and even their job.

Look out if your teen actually puts any credibility into their daily teenage horoscopes. If they are that impressionable about something that is so obviously for fun and really not capable of giving them accurate advice, then how susceptible will they be to the suggestions of those around them who know and interact with them on a daily basis?

It is important that while teaching your teen to be a team player and able to tolerate differences among others, that they also know how important it is to be an individual; their own person, if you will. The ability to think for themselves and comprehend what is actually being conveyed and to evaluate how that might, or might not apply to their beliefs, values and morals is a trait that will mature with age. I have had the pleasure of, although I was convinced I did everything wrong, watching my oldest daughter, who is now in college and living on her own, mature into a responsible, driven and very successful adult. Had she relied on what others told her, listened to those voices telling her she'd fail and given into the fear that the world so generously rations to the weak mind, she would still be living at home, afraid to take any risk.

Teach your teen early about the decision making process and what is right for them. It would be a sad day when your teen's daily teen horoscope told them to "get bake in bed" on the day that a scout happened to visit the baseball field and their star player (your teen) wasn't there.
