Atlantic Basin Hurricane record keeping began in 1908. Since then, meteorologists have been trying to develop accurate hurricane predictions methodologies. After Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast in 2005, experts have been scrambling to come up with even more accurate hurricane predictions. In the search, the weather scientist have ignored one possible avenue for hurricane predictions - Psychics.
I have a reconstructed knee and bursitis in my shoulder and I regularly get caught without an umbrella. To me, these predictions seem to be much more than a physical manifestation. There has to be something more to it. If it is truly a psychic phenomenon, would it be possible to use these weather sensitive individuals to make hurricane predictions?
It is true that the scientists have made great strides in making hurricane predictions, but it is an inexact science at best. Think about the last time you watched a hurricane menacing the coast regions of the United States. All of the so called experts make prognostications about the storms path, but they shroud them in caveats like "Unless the hurricane makes a turn to the right." Or "At any time this storm could change directions." How many times have the made hurricane predictions that have called for a Texas landfall and then the storm ends up hitting North Carolina?
That is quite a discrepancy. Could Psychics fare any worse at hurricane predictions? To this point, we have no idea because the Hurricane Prediction Center bureaucracy has never even bothered to try to measure the effectiveness of these exceptional individuals. There are at least fifteen professional psychics that not only predicted the exact landfall of Hurricane Katrina, they even knew how woeful the government response to the tragedy would prove to be.
That is a remarkable track record. In fact, these same individuals have an exceptional track record of hurricane predictions. They accurately predicted Hurricanes Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe and Rita. In fact, they tried to offer their services to the Hurricane Prediction Center. Instead of accepting this offer of information, they were not so politely asked to leave and not attempt to "waste" the Center's precious time.
As taxpayers, we should be outraged. Do you have any idea how much time and money is wasted preparing for hurricanes in this country? With more accurate hurricane predictions, we could save millions of dollars each hurricane season. Let's give these empathetic individuals the chance to serve their country. What is the worst thing that could happen? The Psychics might predict that a hurricane will hit Texas and instead it hits North Carolina. Not that we should abandon the science of hurricane prediction. On the contrary, we should continue to study these storms and update the predictive models. Let's just use all of the resources available and not just the "mainstream" methods. It is well worth the cost.
