Added: 11/27/2006

Astrologer Zipporah Dobyns was born under the star sign of Virgo on 26 August 1921 and passed away on 7 June 2003 aged 81. Between 1956 and 2003 Zipporah Dobyns pursued a career in astrology and psychology with the result that she developed the astrological alphabet that is now used to identify repeated patterns in individual lives. Other significant contributions towards astrological understanding made by Dobyns related to the influence of asteroids.

Astrologer Zipporah Dobyns possessed a deep understanding of the necessary relationship between two disciplines - astrology and psychology. In both psychology lessons and counselling she used astrology as a tool with which to broaden perceptions relative to life. Dobyns became known world-wide lecturing in more than a dozen countries around the globe about astrological related topics. She obtained a B.A. degree in Anthropology in 1944, and by 1969 also possessed an M.A. and Ph.D in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona. Dobyns certification as a professional astrologer was received in 1960.

For more than forty years Dobyns interest in astrology never waned. Her articles concerned with asteroids and their influence in relation to astrology could be found in well known publications such as the CCRS quarterly journal, the Mutable Dilemma often contributing towards its quarterly newsletter, Asteroid-World.

Dobyns many published works include: The Astrology Annual Reference Book; The Astrologer's Casebook: Distance Values; Evolution through the Zodiac; Finding the Person in the Horoscope; The Node Book; Planets on the Move (with Martha Pottenger); Progressions, Directions and rectification; Unveiling Your Future (with Martha Pottenger); The Zodiac as a Key to History; healing Mother-daughter relationships with Astrology (with Martha Pottenger).

Dobyns was born under the star sign of Virgo. The Virgo constellation is considered by astrologers from most traditions as a female figure, generally presiding over the harvest season. The personal characteristics bestowed by Virgo with its element of earth, provide these individuals with stability, practicality together with highly developed analytical skills. Dobyns appears to have been born under the appropriate star sign as her studies of asteroids and other astrological topics required considerable analysis. In addition the sign's ruling planet which is Mercury also identifies intellectual curiosity. Dobyns was always pushing the borders of her understanding of the universe and its composition, recognizing that all of its features possessed significance whether big or small. Her research relating to asteroids confirms that she had established within her own mind that these rocks floating in space were not simply fragments of previous world to be ignored, but that they too represented something of significance to the composition or fabric of the universe which ultimately rippled down onto our world and into the lives of everyone living on our planet.

Dobyns twice received the Regulus Award at UAC conferences for Education, and for Discovery and Innovation. Dobyns never allowed her imagination to be limited by science, preferring instead to remain open minded about the unknown.

Her many other awards include the Southern Cross Award from the Federation of Australian Astrologers, The Aquarius Workshops Award for Service to Astrology, the Lifetime Achievement Award from ISAR and the Mercury Award from the professional Astrologers of California.
