There are a lot of ways to celebrate the coming of the new year and many people either use family traditions passed down through generations or they engage in local customs that the people in their town have been doing for years. No matter which way you choose you can never go wrong with a New Year’s celebration and the notion of another new year definitely is cause to celebrate. So put on your party hat and scream Happy New Year!
Probably the fastest growing way to celebrate New Year’s is the home party. More and more people are either hosting home parties or attending home parties for New Year’s where they put their car keys in a fish bowl when they walk in and don’t even think about driving until the morning. It actually is a great way to ring in the New Year if you think about it. You are in a home you are familiar with, either your own home or your friend’s home, and you can celebrate all you want with people you know well and then just pass out instead of taking the chance of driving. As more people get killed each New Year’s Eve by drunk drivers on the road other people are responding by either staying home for new years or going to a home party hosted by someone they know surrounded by friends. It really is a cozy way to ring in the New Year.
For those people that absolutely have to get out for their New Year's celebration many hotels now offer complete packages that include food, drink, party favors, and a room to go to instead of driving home. Some of these packages can get quite expensive but the nicer hotels do know how to throw a party and when your food and drink is included in one price it makes it much easier to enjoy your New Year's celebration. Many of these hotel parties truly set up for the long haul as they begin with dinner on New Year’s Eve and end with breakfast on New Year’s Day. It is now very common for these hotel packages to include a breakfast, usually around 4am, for the people that have purchased the whole package. A champagne toast at midnight is included and usually an open bar after midnight for an hour or two is also included. Many of these hotels have a no driving rule which says that if you purchase the package you agree to not drive home afterwards. It may be a party but no one wants anyone getting hurt.
Then for the real party animals there is parties like the one held each New Year’s Eve in Times Square in New York City. A million people gathered to celebrate New Year’s all in one place and the feeling is usually one of celebration rather than tension. There really is something magical about being in a crowd of one million people that are all singing Auld Lang Syne together at midnight to help ring in the New Year that you cannot get at any other celebration. So choose your celebration wisely or just make plans to have one of each celebration over then next few years.
