Wicker Park Is A Psychological Thriller

In the year 2004, there was a great psychological thriller movie made called Wicker Park. This movie was directed by Paul McGuigan, and was a remake made of the 1996 French movie called L'Appartement. Wicker Park never became a box office smash hit but was a great movie that came and left the theaters before it got noticed. It was a great movie filled with twisted plot caused by flashbacks to former relationships that the two main starts shared. Just because a movie is not number one in the box office, does not mean that it was not a good movie.
Wicker Park is a movie with a simple plot that gets deeper as the movie goes on. Some say that the movie was hard to follow because it keeps jumping back and forth in time, revealing different parts of the story. Wicker Park is centered around a man named Matt (played by Josh Hartnett) and his obsessions with finding the girl who got away. This girl is Lisa (who is played by Dian Krugger) who disappeared with out a trace after Matt fell in love with her. When the movie starts, Matt sees who he thinks is Lisa, at a party and starts his search for her. At the start of Wicker Park, you get the feeling that Matt is a stalker who is just obsessed with this Lisa girl. As the movie keeps playing, you will see that this may not be the case as more of their past gets reveled. Thus begins Matt's long search for what really happened the day of her disappearance.

The movie Wicker Park received mixed reviews form people who watched it. Lots of people loved it, but many felt that it jumped around too much and that it was full of plot holes. I feel like this is something that has to be left up to the person that is watching it. Because of the mixed reviews, Wicker Park never did great in the box office and was released on video a short time after. Some say that is because people do not want to have to think too much about a movie. They want it to be right in front of their face, and if the movie does not end the way you want it to, then you deem it a bad movie. I feel this is what happen to Wicker Park. It was a deep psychological thriller that has a lot of twists in the plot and people had a hard time following it. I for one love deep movies, and I like when I am left to think a little bit about the movie. If it is all just given to you at face value, I think it can take away that movie's edge. Of course, that is just what I think, and many people do not feel that same way. Of course, no matter how you view the film, you have to say that Josh Hartnett and Diane Kruger do a good job of taking care of their roles in the movie. They do a good job of giving Wicker Park that creepy edge.

If you like movies that make you think, you are going to love Wicker Park. I love when a movie starts out and you judge a character in the movie, only to find out that you miss judged them. It reminds you that you can not judge a book by its cover. Sometimes you have to look at the reasons behind the way someone is acting to find out why he is doing it. Then you may find out that he is not as crazy as you thought he was. This was a movie full of great actors and actresses, such as Josh Hartnett, Rose Byrne, Diane Kruger, and Matthew Lillard. This movie shows how you can take a person you think is bad, and give them more of a sympathetic light. I think that is what scares people, they do not want to feel sorry for the person they think is bad. If you are looking for something a little different, then I think you should see Wicker Park. You will be able to rent it at your local movie store, and because not too many people know about it, I do not think that it will be gone. Give it a chance, and you will see that a movie does not have to do good in the box office to be a good movie.
