Asian-American females sometimes choose to enter the Miss Asia USA competition. The costume on the winner of the 2006 Miss Asia USA competition provides some insight into the reason for the Miss Bikini USA competition. That costume clearly demonstrates the public love for revealing fashion items. The winner’s evening costume gave the audience an excellent view of her bare back.
Should the existence of a Miss Bikini USA be seen as evidence that there is a Miss Bikini Asia contest? And if there is such a contest, how many Asian countries actually send a woman to compete in that contest? The lack of women from some Asian countries during the Olympic Games gives rise to those questions.
For example, those who watched the procession of athletes into the Olympic stadium undoubtedly noted that Iran had almost no women contestants. Iran, being an Islamic country did not want its women to compete in a contest that would require them to bare their arms or legs. Iran’s single female contestant planned to demonstrate her skills on the rifle range.
For that reason, one must doubt the entrance of any Iranian contestants in the Miss Bikini International competition. One might also wonder how many Iranian-American women compete in the contests that lead to the Miss Bikini USA competition. It is unlikely that any such contestant would be from a devout Muslim family. Such a contestant would be more apt to be a Jew, an Armenian Christian, a Zoroastrian or a Baha’i.
Thus it appears that even as the Miss USA contest has tried to be inclusive, it has, by cooperating with the Miss Bikini USA competition, become a bit exclusive. Its emphasis on fashion items that reveal large portions of the female anatomy has led to exclusion of women who are practicing Muslims. In addition, it basically eliminates from the contestant role any woman who must bear a surgical scar. A woman with such a scar could never hope to win the Miss Bikini USA contest.
One wonders then if perhaps the world needs a new name for the Miss Bikini International Contest. A more correct name might be The Non-Muslim Women of the World in a Bikini Contest. Of course a contest with such a name would not grab as much attention as the current Miss Bikini USA and Miss Bikini International contests. A contest with such a name would seem to welcome protesters, and objections to its obvious exclusivity.
Perhaps it is only a matter of time before the world will see a whole new type of beauty and fashion contests. Perhaps one day even women who have had their bodies scarred by surgery will be encouraged to take part in some sort of beauty and/or fashion competition.
