If I had a piece of paper tapped to my back, I'd be worried that someone wrote "stupid" on it. The saving grace of all this is that who in the world is a game shared by more than one person. So while I'm hoping that no one is laughing behind my back, there are probably twenty people who are worrying about the same thing. Fortunately, everyone's ego's will be kept in check, because throughout the night we're all trying to figure out who the real character is -- be it artist, rock star, athlete or political figure - whose name is written on the piece of paper taped behind our backs.
Now this game is part charade and part "what's my line?" in between the normal mingling and pick-up lines that seem to pervade every party, the players of who in the world do their best to demonstrate the characters that are written on the pieces of paper. Sound fun? You bet it is! Especially when most of the guests have been drinking and "what in the world am I doing" is probably being asked as much as who in the world am I playing! Ultimately no one probably really cares, as having fun is the name of the game. (actually, who in the world is the name of the game, but you get my drift).
The "People who are famous" game is another variation of who in the world. You gracious host is supposed to draw up a list of well known men and women from all walks of life - Napoleon, Caesar, King Kong, you get the idea -and write the names down on paper and cut out the pieces of paper (hey this is sounding an awful lot like the other version of who in the world) . Anyway, pin the paper on the backs of your guests (as opposed to taping the paper. Hey maybe that's the difference here). The other guests will look at the name on the paper and ask questions regarding the famous person. Eventually everyone is supposed to figure each other out as opposed to their being a winner per se. I'm thinking this game is another sure-fire invitation to drink heavily.
There are some variations to these variations of who in the world and I'm sure you will be able to think up a few of your own. So take notes because there might be test later.
The first version of who in the world is called "Two Truths and One Lie". It's a great method of getting to know the person next to you. The object of the game is to sit in a circle and everyone takes turns telling one another three qualities that they have except one is a lie. For example it's my turn and I say, "I am a Ninja Assassin...I have a tattoo on my butt....I am afraid of water..." At this point everyone else in the circle tries to guess which statement is the lie. Which one do you think it is? It's really funny to see how strangers perceive one another. And plus you get a great chance to tell some outrageous lies about yourself. Just remember, even bad publicity is better than no publicity.
And last but not least is a doozy entitled "Don't Say That Word". This actually has very little to do with who in the world am I playing and more with "why in the world am I playing this". But it's a party right? So each guest puts a sticker on their lapel. Then the host makes an announcement that the "word of the evening" is... (fill in the blank). Let's say the word is "pisser". Every time you hear someone use that word, yank off their piece of tape and stick it on your jacket. At the end of the night, the person with the most pieces of tape wins a yet-to-be-determined prize. What a pisser! Oooops!
