What Winter Sport Is Best For You?

There are many winter sports that one can partake in. Skiing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, figure skating, hockey, curling, bob-sledding, snowboarding, snowmobiling, these are just a sampling of the many winter sports available to you. How do you know which winter sport is the right pick for you? It might seem like a difficult decision, but really they are all so much fun that you will enjoy finding out which is your favorite.
There are parts of the world that cannot engage themselves in winter sport activities. These unfortunate places have no winter to speak of, and thus they have no snow or ice to play in and enjoy. They might be dreaming of a white Christmas, but they know that they are never going to get one.

For those places that are fortunate enough to have a real winter, full of ice and snow and fun, a winter sport is a great way to pass the time. Winter sports are a well-recognized part of our past-time, and there are even the Winter Olympic Games where the best and the brightest stars of the winter sports world go to compete every four years.

There are many winter sports out there. Bobsledding, snowmobiling, skiing, ice skating, sledding, snowboarding, ice hockey, curling, ringette, ice fishing, snowball fights, all these and more are part of the great fun that we all have during the winter months.

One of the most basic winter sports is sledding. Sleds are cheap to buy, and if you don’t have one you can make one out of just about anything. A piece of cardboard, the dome to your plastic pool that is all boxed up now that it is wintertime, a garbage can lid. Children have been making sleds out of all of these materials for ages now.

If you want to engage in the winter sport of sledding, all you have to do is take out your sled and climb to the top of a snow covered hill. Sit yourself on the sled atop the hill, close to the edge. Give yourself a little push forward and down the hill you go! As with all winter sports, you’ll want to make sure that you are properly attired before you start sledding down the hill. When you come to a stop at the bottom you will most likely find yourself covered with snow, and you probably don’t want that soaking all through your clothes and making you cold.

One of the most popular team winter sports is ice hockey. This Canadian classic has become popular the world over. A team generally requires a minimum of 6 players. One is the goal tender, who guards the goal, the other 5 are typically made up of 3 forward positions and 2 defencemen. The 3 forwards are generally made up of a single center and two wingers. One is the right winger (on the right side of the center) and the other is the left winger (on the left side of the center). Hockey is also a simple game that can be played by children even if they aren’t on an official team, all you need is some ice and something that resembles a net, some skates and a hockey stick.

Skiing is one of the most popular of all winter sports. It involves standing atop two skis, you also have two ski poles that you use for balance and maneuvering. You slide down the ski slop while on your skis (which are strapped onto you using special ski boots). You use the poles to guide yourself, make turns and propel yourself forward. Don’t try to use your poles to stop yourself, though: it won’t work. When you want to stop you slide your feet so that the skis are horizontal to the slope, this will bring you to a stop.

No matter which winter sport you choose to partake in, you will find that it is a great amount of fun and excitement. Ice and snow exist for a reason, and that reason is for you to have fun!
