What Is The Definition Of Feminism, Not Womanism?

Feminism is not womanism; the two are distinctly different and have different meanings. Feminism is the belief that someone has regarding the equality in full for women as well as of men. Females and men can be feminists. Equality is the key goal here, with more men doing the jobs us women have been doing for years and more women doing the jobs that men have been doing. People's meanings of feminism vary as do how they believe in it.
Some beliefs of feminism, not womanism, involve total equality for both of economics, social and the political fields. Feminism has a misconception about women that is not true or accurate. Movements like the rights for children, lesbian/gay, civil rights and rights on labor and on peace have all had some type of feminism’s influence carried over into them, not womanism.

Almost every career field has women climbing within the company ranks now, in jobs that used to be considered “Mans Work” only in earlier times. Women are showing they are just as good if not at times better than some of their male counterparts in the same positions as are men showing they can be Mr. Moms and still have happy marriages and successful home lives. Our goals as women have begun to change due to this and our dreams seem more attainable.

Women in the United States make up over 50% of this population ands still we have yet to see a women as the Vice President or President of the United States, but with the 2008 elections right around the corner all of this could have change on the horizon, a woman could actually be voted into the Presidential seat of the White House. It is incredible that the United States congress has fewer than 19% of women within it and the Senate at fewer than 8% in these days and times.

There are also sad statistics regarding a huge number of 85% or more of illiterates all around the world being women. There needs to be more done on this issue as well as more on educational issues for women, this is not just a feminist view and not a womanism view but rather a view of common sense to make our world a better place for our children whether male or female to live in and flourish with educational opportunities and see that their dreams and career aspirations come true.

There are the feminist, not womanist who are considered radical, whose beliefs on contraception access, abortion rights, prenatal quality health care, sexually harassment issues, violence of a domestic nature protection, rape and the rights of women on issues regarding reproduction are very strong. The radical also believes in rights within the workplace which include leave for maternity, pay of equal portions and discriminations of other types within our society today.

The feminism, not womanism groups who consider themselves as liberal’s believe that the liberation of women’s movements exist between the sexes equality. One famous and well known liberal in the feminism world is Gloria Steinham.

Feminism, not womanism believes effective movements in the feminist world should revolve around issues which should be of importance to us all like prostitution, rape, molestation, incest, child pornography, oppression of the gender, women’s impeded advancements within economies which are developed and the horrible practice in some parts of the Middle East and Africa of cutting of mutilation of the female genitalia. These are important issues we all need to make a stand against eradicating and solving.

Discrimination still has an existence within our modern world today even after all of the advancements in other areas we have made.
