Religion is a very important element in some people's lives. There are many different components to any religion. For example, the Jewish religion has some dietary laws such not eating milk and meat together and no eating pork ever. Plus, every religion has its holiday such Hanukkah, Passover, Christmas, and Easter. These holidays we are familiar with but what is Pentecost?
Religion is an important part of human beings culture. Most people have a belief in some kind of religion. However, the degree of belief in said religion is dependant on each individual person. For example, I am a conservative Jew and not a Reform Jew or an Orthodox Jew. In addition, there are people who are Christians but they are not Catholic. In addition, some people who follow Christianity don't follow the Pentecost and some religions such as Judaism that don't know what the Pentecost is all about. I didn't even know that there was anything called Pentecost. You learn something new everyday, or at least you should attempt to learn something new everyday. The word Pentecost comes from the Greek language and it translates to "the fifteenth day." I like to know the fifteenth day of what exactly?

Pentecost is a Greek word meaning the fifteenth day which corresponds to the fifteenth day after Easter Sunday, which corresponds to the tenth day after Ascension Thursday. It is a feast in the Christian liturgical calendar which is symbolically related to the Jewish festival of Shavuot that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the followers of Jesus, on that day, as described in the Book of Acts, Chapter Two. Pentecost is also called "Whit Sunday" in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries. Perhaps, it is also called Pentecost Sunday. Did you also know that there are many traditions and holidays set around Pentecost?

In Denmark, it is rarely celebrated elaborately. However, it is still celebrated as a public holiday so children get the day off from school. In Italy, it is customary to scatter rose petals from the ceilings of the churches to recall the miracle of the fiery tongues; hence in Sicily and elsewhere in Italy Whit Sunday is called Paschal Rosatum. In Poland, Pentecost is called "the Green Holiday" because people decorate their homes with green branches which according to tradition are said to bring God's blessing upon the home and the people who are living in the house. Another custom, which is slowly becoming a rarity, is making processions to the fields, where the crops are blessed. On Pentecost, the Russians carry flowers and green branches in their hands. It should also that the week prior to this holiday is known as "green week", during which all manner of plants and herbs are gathered. The Eastern Orthodox Church considers this entire week to be an ecclesiastic feast.

The Jewish holiday of Shavuot is also associated with greenery. This holiday marks the time when Moses received the Torah on Mount Sinai on behalf on the Jewish nation. Tradition holds that Mount Sinai, despite being in the wilderness of the Sinai desert, miraculously spouted vegetative growth in honor of this occasion.

According to Church tradition Pentecost is always seven weeks after Easter Sunday. It is in the mid to late spring in the Northern Hemisphere and is in mid to late autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore, the next three years will see Pentecost celebrated in May. Pentecost is either celebrated in either May or June. This year Pentecost is celebrated on May 27th.
