Bill Vaughn is actually someone who is funny and has some very intellectual things to say. This is why he and Jay Leno do not share the same audience. Bill Vaughn has been quoted as saying “A citizen of America will cross oceans to fight for democracy, but won’t cross a street to vote in a national election”. While this is true, maybe one of the New Year quotes you hear will be that they are going to start making changes, big ones, in their lives and then immediately launch into the changes that need to take place in Washington. Bill Vaughn has also said,” If there’s anything a nonconformist hates more than a conformist, it’s another nonconformist who doesn’t conform to the prevailing standard of conformity.” How true is this? For those who rattle off resolutions pertaining to any societal norm, anything that they think is wrong in the world that the rest of the world thinks if right. There are so many uses for this quote; quotations famous people say are really not repeated enough!
“New Year’s day is every man’s birthday” said Charles Lamb. This quote is true in that most people look to this annual event for a fresh start. New Year’s Day is a time to celebrate, similar to the birthday celebrations enjoyed annually by each of us. This quote makes a lot of sense. However, there are some elements not shared that should be between the two. Most often, there is some thought and preparation that goes into the celebration of a birthday, gifts are purchased, cakes are made and decorations are hung while the invitations make their way through the snail mail system. Shouldn’t we spend as much time preparing for a year as we do for one day? At least that much!
New Year quotes are known for their wisdom and invaluable advice. New Year quotes can actually be said at any time during the year, as long as they are in some way connected to a “starting over” or “making myself better” concept. A Chinese proverb says “to know the road ahead, ask those coming back.” New Year quotes spoken in earnest are the most valuable as they share important life lessons. Often those much older are eager and willing to share the experiences of their past in an effort to spare others their trials and turmoil. The younger generation doesn’t have an ear to hear. They choose the road ahead that is empty and not paved. The way that is made for us is the road less traveled, as we feel we need to blaze our own trails. No where has there been more need for change than on the road less traveled. It is less traveled for a reason or two.
