There is a lot that is misunderstood about feminist organizations. They do not just build bonfires and burn training bras. That is not the only thing that happens. Most organization meetings that I have been to have been quite organized. They have actual discussion topics that fit into everyday life to help you defeat opression because of gender or race, education, and the type of things that are taboo to other more proper places in today's society as drugs, abortion, and alcohol.
YWOT, or young women of tomorrow, is a club that is designed for this generations ladies. This club is a symbol for women's rights.It gives females a chance to bond with other females and discuss the difficulties of being a young woman growing up in a sexist society, where most people believe women belong at home doing her kitchen duties. It lifts girls self esteem. It helps young ladies reach their goals on life that other wise would seem impossible. It is for girls to come together and support one another. It is a club where we can freely talk about sexism, racism, politics, anything at all. YWOT is usually a high school club about feminism itself and about feminist organizations.
NOW, or the National Organization for women, is by far the biggest feminism organization there is out there. All there is to know about this feminist organizations is that there are 50,000 members in the United States alone, which is all fifty states and even the District of Colombia, or D.C. This organization was started in 1966,and has been growing ever since it was established. This group deals with all types of discrimination, no matter where it is or who you are.
Feminist Majority Foundation is yet another feminist organization. The FMF was founded in 1987 and is one of the more recent nd popular organization. The really neat thing about feminist organizations is that is one is for everyone. It has job listings and things for students to view and participate in. this makes this a very popular group. This organizations promotes research and action to help the feminist community.
I personally, think that about feminist organizations, the most interesting one would have to be KAYAN. KAYAN is the Arabic word for being. Thsi is a feminist orgainization which was started in 1998 by Palestinian Israeli women. Keyan is a non-governmental organization run by the people for the people. It teaches on women's development. It teaches them to be vocal in their society and break each and every opressing law or tradition that was once set upon them to put them down. This is the most foreign organization I have seen. It is also the neatest, because they are reaching women and changing their lives drastically where they have not had to do quite as much in the United States.
All feminist organizations are about helping women. This is what draws all its member together. Organizations like this are what keep people educated, informed, and even sane.
