In the summer, visitors to Leadville enjoy many warm weather activities. Whitewater rafting is a popular activity, and Leadville has many Whitewater Rafting Outfitters to choose from. There are also many companies that allow charters of their fishing boats and equipment, for those who want to relax while fishing. Many people, of course, come to the mountains in the summer to enjoy camping and there are many Leadville lodging facilities that offer excellent camping, both for tent campers and trailer campers. The Leadville area offers many locations for visitors to enjoy hiking and walking in the scenic countryside of the mountains. For a beginner hike, head to Wurt’s Ditch Road. This hike has wide panoramic views of the area, and is a smooth walk with few inclines. For a slightly more challenging hike, head to Tenth Mountain Hut, which also provides excellent views. Lilly Lake is another slightly more challenging path, which rounds a lovely lake. Finally, for an advanced hike, head to Jenny June Loop, which has both easy and challenging terrain.
If you want to enjoy horseback riding in Leadville, head to Mega Mountain Magic. They take riders to a great view of the highest mountains in Colorado. Snow doesn’t stop Mega Mountain Magic! In the winter, they host historic sleigh rides of the downtown. Mega Mountain Magic also hosts hunting expeditions for area deer and elk. They provide camp cooks and hunting guides for their camping trips.
In the winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities. The Mitchell Creek Loop is a two-and-a-half mile loop trail that is perfect for beginners. The trail is about eight miles from Leadville. Wurt’s Ditch Road is another place for snowshoeing in the winter. There are several places to rent equipment in Leadville.
Leadville lodging offers just about any type of lodging you might want. If you want to stay in a Victorian Bed and Breakfast, then head the Apple Blossom Inn or the Ice Palace Inn. Both provide excellent service and a rustic, historic setting for your mountain vacation. Of course, many people would rather rent a cabin for the ultimate mountain experience. The Cozy Mountain Retreat is located right next to San Isabel National Forest, and is set on an acre of land. Eagle’s Rest Lodge allows you to rent a cedar log cabin that offers stunning views of the Rockies. These cabins can sleep up to twelve guests comfortably, which make them perfect for a large family get together. Condos are another great option. The Grand West Village Resort offers one of the best condo locations in Leadville, set next to Turquoise Lake. This is another great place to stay with a group of people.
